Too geeky? For you this is not possible. It's painfully obvious that you are 100% purebred, AKC registered GEEK.
See I've never really looked at the Elderscrolls games as being story driven. Is there a story? yeah. Does it unfold while you're playing? sure.
But I play it for the experience of running around in an open fantasy world doing what I want (usually stealing books), and Elderscrolls is pretty much the only game now that fulfills the "blank slate character in an open world fantasy universe".
Games with a modern setting (GTA, Modern Warfare, Battlefield, etc) are already at the forefront of the industry, having variety isn't a bad thing.
Either way, on 11-11-11, I am going to seriously enjoy running around as a Wood Elf monk that steals books and fights with his fists.
That sounds awesome. Just don't punch a dragon. >_>
I think MorbidApparition ment RPG games in a modern day setting (example they gave: Yakuza series).
What the fuck was that? You are writing a comment on a gaming blog. Thus, you and all of us, have reached an astounding level of geekyness. You are part of the geek elite.
That's a good point, I can agree that more modern RPGs would be nice.
@Quanta Starfire
Oh man, I hadn't even considered that yet. I think that would make for a terrifyingly awesome fight!
Game looks amazing but I'm always interested in seeing what you can do outside of combat as well.
@Morbid
josmeister's got your number.
Naming several well-regarded anime films and comparing them to a bunch of shitty comic book movies does nothing but discredit your argument.
And you know what? I've read all the books you mentioned (save for The Tin Drum), and yet I STILL somehow manage to enjoy videogames -- even the ones you claim have "no artistic merit". Am I doing something wrong?
All you've done there is compare some of the greatest animated films ever committed to film to some average to good comic book adaptations. How in any way does that prove that anime is somehow a superior medium!?!
Beating a dragon to death with your bare hands, and absorbing it's soul sounds like the proper way to EARN that title of Dovahkiin.
@Morbid - You're going to list highly regarded works of art with a myriad of different settings, yet your initial argument is that high fantasy is garbage because of its setting and that its too geeky? How can youb claim to appreciate anything artistic when you're incapable of looking beyond its setting?
I'm really not into Oblivion or even Fallout3 but Skyrim looks just fucking amazing.
You two should do more vids together.
So...thanks Jim and Max. That was refreshing!
Too much "geeky stuffs like dragon", Not enough Anime.
