And why should you? The developers already had a 2 article long interview with you to do that on their own..
Now it happens that you actually got to play the game and you like it. But until that point, you have to admit that you were just as in the dark as every other nay-sayer who will only be satiated when they're able to try it for themselves.
And I think thats the big thing to this: This is a very seeing is believing game, and most of us having seen much of anything yet. So yeah, its really very easy to still feel like the game may not live up to the name attached.
"Each weapon has a limited lifespan and will become useless if wielded too many times."
They had dodged this question somewhat when you asked them, and I don't know if I want to say that this was why, or not.. But reading this made me groan a little. I get your saying it works out because weapons are in abundance, but.. I don't know.. its subjective I guess that weapons should be in abundance in your subconscious. Some would say yes, some would say no.
"As an RPG, this is a solid game."
I'm still not convinced it needs the RPG elements. I can see making your character, so its really YOU like they stressed, but stats and stuff? I don't know. Like when they talked about having an Intelligence Stat and such I just couldn't imagine why you'd need that in Silent Hill. If theres spells (which feels odd to say) them maybe, but if you can't really spam them/use them as your main weapon, that seems like wasted stats.. and the only other thing I could imagine would be if they helped with puzzles, which would be interesting, but mostly in a group setting where other people offset your weaknesses. So I guess thats another thing we'll have to see about.
"Like I said, I will not attempt to convince you to give Book of Memories a chance if you have already planned to hate it. What's the damn point?"
Selling games, so these guys don't feel like asshats, and the whole "massive pushbacks" saga could have meant something. I'm more then willing to give it a spin, I'm a big dungeon fan on top of a huge Silent Hill fan, I'm just not sure all of the choices they made were necessary. But that alone makes me want to get the game and pick through it, though.. Uncertainty in Silent Hill is a pretty powerful thing after all and it happens to be one of the reasons I've actually sat through some of the worse entries we've seen.
Having said that, I think I can see a reason to complain, but I don't think it's why fans do complain about Silent Hill. It's because if fans buy this, Konami would probably start to think that this is a better direction for Silent Hill to take rather than what was done with Silent Hill 2, for example.
Either way, I can see why people would get passionate, just as why I can see that they should calm down and see the forest for the trees. Truth be told, though, I thought this wasn't going to be a very good game regardless of being called Silent Hill.
Don't worry Jim.. you'll dislike the game soon enough when you finally play it in full come release.
Also Jim, I gotta say that I hated you at first. However, after reading your reviews and editorials I now respect the hell out of you. Thank you for having the stones to tell it like you see it.
