My point exactly. It serves no purpose but bring misery and despair. I just don't understand it's intent. If the purpose is to help the back of the pack move up, it rarely does so, unless the entire top 5 or so of the competition is clustered. Otherwise, rarely does it seem to actually help the user move up in position.
It just spawned so often in Mario Kart Wii, I stopped trying to take the lead until the very end on upper difficulties, because it gets so annoying to be punished 2-4 times a race for doing well.

Besides the Blue Shell joke everyone will make, this game looks interesting and I'll definitely try it out, but I don't think this is going to be a Day 1 game for me, but then again, I haven't played it.

At least make the blue shell somehow avoidable. Games should never punish you for being good at them.
The blue shell allows the back of the pack to still feel a part of the race by at least impacting its outcome. It also forces the first two slots to strategize how and when they take the lead. It is essential to the feel of Mario Kart. All who blaspheme its name will hear its buzzing approach in their sleep!

Please did they go back to the old drifting mechanic and not that found in Mario KArt Wii? Snaking FTW!
Am I the only person completely turned off by the whole upgradeable karts thing? I feel it is an unnecessary part of the game, not to mention it looks ridiculous. Aesthetics are not everything in a game, but they have their part. That being said this looks like the only version of Mario Kart since the 64 worth buying, so thats a plus. Headed in the right direction.

Mario Kart DS, and Double Dash, and Mario Kart Wii, are /totally different games/. For example, the people you play them with are different.
Double Dash is a game you play with a few friends in the same room- co-op, or versus. Mario Kart DS is a game you play by yourself, or with random internet people. Mario Kart Wii is a game that you play alone for a little while, then play with other people for a little while, then trade back in to Gamestop.
tl;dr- (and I wrote it) Just because it 'feels like Mario Kart' doesn't mean I'll love it. And I love me *some* Mario Kart. But not *all* Mario Kart.
