Regardless, one thing I do hope they change is offering more incentive to not mash on auto battle for 99 percent of the game. I'm not prepared to make any suggestions on how to do that, but it would be nice if I felt more involved in the battle other than selecting paradigms
I refused to play the 1st one even though I own it...
Unless their implementation has been improved significantly my interest level is back down to zero.
I actually didn't liked much of this mechanic in ToS2, but I still finished and liked the game.
This one will be the same. I liked XIII so I think I will like it this one too.
Thank god the battle system is back but the QTE mania worries me.
Square-Enix is just mixing and matching any spontaneous design element they think up into yet another jacked-up, directionless shit-stain on the game industry.
Final Fantasy can never win. If people aren't complaining that they're repetitious and never improve, they're complaining that the repetitious stuff got taken away.
*puts scotch tape over the X button*
Now all I just have to do is a paradigm shift every few minutes to heal and the game will pretty much beat itself, right?
I think in the eyes of some, the autobattle function went too far in the opposite direction so instead of monotonous command entry, you end up having a significantly decreased influence over battles. I think the autobattle system had moments where it worked incredibly well (certain boss battles come to mind) but I disliked how I was actively discouraged or downright punished whenever I wanted to manually choose a spell or action.
As for the sequel, I'll wait until I know more, but Square has really taken a liking to many of the horrible cliches that riddle JRPGs and it doesn't seem like that is going to change anytime soon.
@Gamescook
Real ff fans don't want endless remakes. Your comment is such **** that I don't even have a response.
But seriously, I was (extremely)hesitantly watching this, and now have my worst fears confirmed. I didn't particularly care to save the world they didn't really flesh out in the first one, so there's pretty much no way I'll care to save it a 2nd time...
I'm fine waiting until 2012 to play this, but 2011 would still be cool.
Let's hope it's not like that this time. As evermourn said, I rather Square-Enix didn't crap on my heart again.
I'm a little skeptical about the monster recruitment, though. I disliked it in Tales of Symphonia 2, so let's hope they either do it better or bring in other human characters as well.
I understand what you mean, but we're talking about a flaw inherent to the RPG genre, which is that there will always be a single best attack against non-unique enemies. This is what Square was trying to address somewhat. I know they just put a new coat of paint on the same problem, but it's not any worse for that. There really isn't an actual difference, it's just a different perspective.
I agree that what you described was one of the problems they were attempting to address but like I said, I think it's the amount of change that this new coat of paint employed with regard to player interaction that a lot of folks find most contentious. If Square could scale things back just a little, they'd end up with a much more enjoyable system in my opinion.
Oh well, you're right in saying that they'll never be able to please everyone no matter what system they end up with. I personally would not mind if they left it as it is if they devoted that time and effort toward fixing their storytelling.
Ok rant over. Sorry.
As for this, the pokemon aspect as you call it made my interest in this game plummet. I hate using monsters in battle. Hate it. I hope, like autobattle, that its optional and can have a full party, not just two characters...
*snore*
Secondly, does Square-Enix actually know how Roman Numerals work?
I was kinda hoping for a new story centring on Fang and Lightning, but it looks like Square Enix have their plans already, and they're obviously not as keenly interested in the potential for female liberation and empowerment through strong independent heroines with a penchant for badassery, misandry and sexual experimentation.
Awell..
