I have no doubt the multiplayer will still be fun, and good, but without the level playing field it probably won't hold my interest for as long as previous entries in the series did.
1. The god damn auto hit melee lunge. Going in for a melee attack is not a risk/reward thing, as along as you are within five feet of someone and looking in their general direction you will automatically hit them. Yes, in Halo: CE you could miss your melee attack.
2. Anti-vehicle weapons. Halo: CE you had to aim and time a rocket to hit a moving vehicle, which creating some intense moments, awesome kills and gave vehicles to change to dodge. Since then it's been auto hit tracking rockets, and instant kill laser, so freaking lame and boring.
I guess I expect the melee lung to be in, which only ruins CQB, which is only half of the game, but if the vehicle combat sucks again, I'm done with this series. I really don't want to be though.
And I hope to God they didn't skimp on the single player content.
I notice no armor lock, guess all the terrible children who whined incessantly about it got their wish.
To be quite honest, I'm excited for Halo again for the first time since ... I dunno, maybe Halo 3. And I'm happy Bungie isn't behind it anymore. After Reach I honestly thought Bungie was either too stubborn to accept that Halo needed to change or simply weren't competent enough developers to know how to make it change.
Also ... is 343 going to explain why we're still fighting Covenant?
This. Hated the loadouts in Reach, basic though they were, so this doesn't really fill me with hope.
Ah well, hopefully the single player will still be a barrel of laughs!
Taking ideas from other successful games is certainly not a bad thing. I like that running is standard now. I like that you can use points to customize your armor. I like the executions they introduced in Reach.
But taking so much that your game loses some of its identity is a bad thing. Part of what made Halo special is that you were on a level playing field in every match, and if you wanted a better weapon you had to fight for it because they were all pick up weapons. This type of gameplay brings a competitive edge and fairness that COD is supremely lacking in in all game modes aside from the wager matches in blops. I'm completely for new mechanics, weapons, and powerups. I like leveling up to get character customization options. But when you introduce unlockable weapons and powerups, you ruin the balance of the game, and negate the need to take control of power weapons and items. It creates an atmosphere where time invested is rewarded more than skill acquired, and that's something I don't look for in competitive multiplayer.
Moving the Halo series forward is a good thing, but not if we leave behind what helped make the previous entries special.
I'm down, up until they add XP and leveling or whatever is in CoD. I don't mind CoD. But leveling and all that in shooters revolts me.
Just because you unlock something later does not necessarily mean that it's automatically better. Just different. I can see where the overreactions are coming from, but since balance is such a big part of halo, I don't think they'd chuck it out the window.Plus, the playstyle described only seemed to exist in that game type (like TurboKill said), and not to hold over into a persistent XP sort of thing. So, playing longer does not necessarily mean you get cooler stuff.

I really haven't been this excited about a Halo game since the months leading up to Halo 3, when I would play Halo 2 almost every night. By the time ODST came out, I had already sold Halo 3 months ago. And in less than a year I sold the Halo 3 Mythic Disc. I barely got anywhere in Reach multiplayer, and the campaign really disappointed me. Plus Firefight just couldn't stand up to Horde, Zombies, or Spec Ops Survival.
Halo is back. Fuck yes.
It has been clearly stated that if you want to use a weapon you haven't unlocked yet, take it from a dead body just like everything else in the previous games. The weapons are already balanced against each other so how does a new weapon guarantee death for those who have yet to unlock it?
The other Halo games never did a very good job of portraying the awesomeness of powered armor suits but Halo 4 might just do it
Also, Samus wins against Chief every time, no contest.
