Perhaps one of the biggest surprises to come out of Microsoft's E3 2007 conference was a brand new trailer for Resident Evil 5. You'll notice a mob of angry villagers not unlike those found in RE4 and what appears to be an African village setting.

While the trailer is a little on the short side and it isn't exactly easy to make out what's going on, there's no denying how impressive the visuals are. Luckily for us, the full trailer will be available on Xbox Live Marketplace on July 26.

Resident Evil 5 simply cannot come soon enough.

[Thanks a bunch, ConsFEARacy]

I never got into the Resident Evil games because I couldn't get over the camera views when fighting monsters and among other things.

You must have never played RE 4 then.

Anyways this looks ummmmmm... I guess it's an original setting for an RE game. Even if it looks more in place with Metal Gear or Battlefield or something. I'm excited for anything that expands up the awesomeness that was RE4 though.

I also thought it was MGS4 when the trailer first started. Ah well, being the huge RE4 fan that I am, it was equally exciting to see some more footage.

This trailer freaked me out to be honest. Heres to hoping that a next-gen Silent Hill will scare the fuck out of me.

Maybe it's just latent racism, but this setting seems to make it all the more scary. This looks like it could potentially be fucking terrifying. Here's to fear.

Is it just me or has it become a trend for trailers of new sequels to only show the number of the game? Man, I can't wait for 3, 4 and 5!

This is my most anticipated game for 2008. Metal Gear Solid 4 has nothing on this.

Was that a skinny African man with a chainsaw in that one shot? If so, the awesomeness of that reality totally blows my mind to bits.

I really hope M$ comes out with their Wii-remote rip off controller soon though. RE4 for the Wii has totally spoiled me. I'm not sure I can ever go back.

Or they'll just make a graphicly downgraded Wii version, which I would buy over a graphicly superior 360 version just for the controls.
Tron Knotts's Avatar
Tron Knotts at 07/11/2007 06:33
I meant to say "skinny African man with a burlap bag on his head".

If this game reveals there is something about the Las Plagas that makes some of their infected love to wear burlap bags on their heads, then this will the greatest game in history.

Another thing I'm hoping for is that there is a some period of time (a few hours spread through out the game) where you wander around the villiage with out being attacked. The one thing about RE4 that could be considered a flaw is that there is too much action. It gets over stimulating. Some sneaking around or GTA like interaction with villiagers would be great, especially as a build up to them unexpectedly turning on you.

Amazing. And screw to those who will call the race card. This is humanity, and not every human is a good ole caucasian. White guys went into Rwanda to "help" stop a genocide, I don't know why they couldn't go there to stop a virus or something.

I'm really interested/excited to see where they go with this:

racially.

OH SNAP NO HEDIDN"T! TUBATIC PULLED THE RACE CARD!!!!! AAAAAHHH RACE CARD HAS PLUS 5 to STFUAJPG!!!!! SO STRONGER THAN BLUE EYEZ!!! EEEEK!

But yes. I think, depending on how the publisher/developer works this, could be a great addition to the "are games art?" discussion.

And so you all understand, I'm not saying ban this game, stop this game from coming out, censor this game, shame on them for making this game. Fuck that. Bring the damn game out and say something, or say nothing. Whatever. seriously.

Its going to come up all over, and with good reason. Its got a setting slathered in all sorts of real world topics, which in themselves are the source of many discussions. Hell, the imagery of black (zombified) people encroaching on other black (non-zombified people) is fodder enough to spark a discussion of racial images in entertainment media. Let alone being part of an industry marketed to white male consumers age 18-30.

I'm just saying. This isn't Pong. The sprites have eyes here.

Wanna kill a bunch of white people? Play any WWII FPS
Asians? Dynasty warriors
Hispanics? GRAW 2
and now Blacks? RE5

San Andreas doesn't count because you killed everyone in that game.

Also, why pull the race card? Earlier Resident Evil games have white people in it. In Resident Evil 5, they are black because they are in an area where people have that skin color. What, you want purple-skinned people so the race card won't be pulled?
