E3 2007: Not so much hands-on with Mega Man: Starforce photo

Okay, so when I was given a tour through the Capcom booth at E3, I barely had a chance to play the new Mega Man: Starforce series. Time, apparently, was very limited, and I only had about 1.2 minutes with these games. That’s right, games.

Capcom will be releasing three different versions of their new Mega Man: Starforce IP for the Nintendo DS. This new series, which is based on the previous Battle Network titles, will be available in Leo, Dragon, and Pegasus versions.

Like I said before, I barley had any time with these titles at all, but if you are a fan of card based, Pokeman-ish style Mega Man games – read on.

Well, if you’ve made it this far, then you are either twelve, or a hardcore Mega Man fan. Whatever category you happen to fall into, is fine by me.

Just know this: I really, in all honesty, didn’t have much of a chance to play these games, so I am unable to give you a complete and accurate opinion of them.

Mostly, I was just allowed to mess around with one of them (Leo?) for a few minutes until I was shuffled off to play something else. So the only things that I can tell you are that the trio of titles allow for online battling, and that each respective title – Leo, Pegasus, and Dragon – has its own game specific features (think Pokeman: Diamond, Pearl, Red, Blue, Whatever).

Lame, huh? That is, the fact that I barely got to play is lame. How am I supposed to give anybody any info if I can’t even have some quality time with a title? Oh, that’s right. There's still the press release.

Features:
•    Three stellar versions call upon the power of the elements – Ice Pegasus, Fire Leo and Green Dragon
•    Two co-existing worlds – explore the real world in human form and transform into Mega Man to maneuver the virtual “Wave World”
•    Cyber battles feature an immersive third person view as players engage enemies in a 3x5 battle grid
•    Each game version offers a unique powered-up transformation of Mega Man based on the respective elemental power and can unleash a special “Star Force Big Bang” attack
•    Battle Cards based on elemental attributes (fire, water, wood, electricity), each a part of a power chain where one is stronger or weaker than another
•    Best Combo – combine Battle Cards of the same type to unleash consecutive attacks
•    Dynamic Brother Band system – add up to six friends to help each other in battles, share Battle Cards, receive stat boosts and other special benefits
•    Each character has their own customizable Personal Page where Battle Cards and information can be viewed and traded with friends to compare progress

Hopefully, Capcom will see this and allow me to have an advanced copy of one these new titles. That way, I'll be able to tell you something more than, Chad loves Pegasus'!

And not just any Mega Man spinoff... a crappy Battle Network game.

Hey, Capcom. When are you going to release Mega Man Legends 3?

If Capcom gave us Street Fighter 4, there would be nothing but a sea of nerds in Bonerland.

At least where I work....

Maybe this will have the three-way action like the Zelda Oracles/Seasons/Othercrap (no third name for the "lost one" of the original three) was supposed to have, but didn't because they couldn't get their head around a three-way password system, and settled on aborting the third Capcom-Zelda child in development. Or these could just be crappy Megaman games that don't connect to each other at all, and are just cash-ins to make stupid kids buy more copies of the same game, which is worse than the Pokemon games locking away content because you "gotta buy 'em all!"

Why don't they piss off and give us Mega Man 9 ? I'm sick of these horrible spin-offs and crappy sequels like x8 and anything in the Network series.

I remember when I got battle network 1. It wasn't that bad but it wasn't really that good either. I thought they might be able to take the series in an interesting direction, make it a bit more complex, add some different missions that aren't running around with annoying panic music only four bars long on loop. But no, they managed to make the same game nearly every time. There were slight differences but they were only addons.

I just have a bad feeling this will just be like the rest, except a difference angle.

WOW!! If that is not the gayest title for a game ever. First its megaman "cool i like that". Then starforce "kinda gay". Then pegasus "A fucking flying pony?".

These are going to need to be unloaded from the trucks straight into the bargain bin. Or the dumpster.
