Sorry. I’m getting a little overboard with my title, but to be honest, I’m having a hard time trying to retain a professional demeanor after playing
Metroid Prime Corruption – it’s just that good.
The controls for
Corruption are so responsive, so correct, and so intuitive, that I’ve finally been convinced that the Wii is the new home for first person adventures. I know that those are some bold words (and that games like
Red Steel have left a pretty bad taste in player’s mouths), but if you play
Corruption for just ten minutes, you’ll become a believer too.
I don’t know what those folks at Retro studious did, but strafing, and run ‘n’ gun tactics have never felt so good or so natural before. Without even thinking about it, you become immersed in the game; running, jumping and rolling through levels like you were born to it. Oh, and the camera? Perfect.
Seriously,
Corruption is so wonderful to play, that I just may not want to go back to the ol’ dual-sticks again.
Actual games FTW*! (For The *Wii)!
MP3 ftw!
ooo baby.
Must... play... Metroid...
When I hear great news about a Nintendo game on Destructoid, I tend to take it the most seriously. Not only has this place slowly transformed into my favorite gaming blog, but its staffers are so critical that you can't take any praise lightly. That's not supposed to sound negative, I'm actually pretty psyched.
I'll have to wait till Christmas time, but still.
Rawk.
It locks, but you can still aim elsewhere on the fly. So, it's like you have the freedom to either auto-target (for n00bs) or "focus" targeting (for the core crowd). Win.
What blog is this and where is my destructoid?
These previews for MP3:C and SMG are just TOO FUCKING POSITIVE.
It must be April Fools or something.
Are they really THAT great? Sweet Jebus, it doesn't seem possible and I'm a damn fan. Surely they've shitted something up!
UT3 is still delayed for me, so this will have to do.
(swallows and smiles through clinched teeth)
Must be Sony or Microsoft fanboy, right....
now if they made Samu's show some skin... hey ill jump on the happy wagon as well :D
Its proof of concept, in my opinion. Someone's "done it". "It" being made a good game that makes the Wii control scheme work intuitively (as Dyson has described).
That's just really exciting. Of course, it'll spoil us from putting up with shoddy third party control implementations, and see the ratings of every half-cocked FPS clone/port plummet to legendary depths.
Good times.
What is it going to take to view a new control scheme as a marked improvement on the current mostly-stale state of the FP(anything) genre? Even games like Breakdown which were amazingly conceived and incredibly poorly executed due to the inadequacy of the analog sticks that haven't changed at all since the days of the dual shock. Yeah, sensitivity goes up, and reliability goes up as technology gets better, but the human to game interface hasn't changed at all. Computers have touch screens now, and look at the iPhone. Compare it to input devices on mobile phones as little as five years ago. Remember big rubbery buttons on a cell phone the size of a lunchbox? Apparently none of you played keyboard ASCII games, and were amazed at the neat stuff you could do with a mouse. No new-tech lust here. Just denial. Dirty, dirty denial.
I was being sarcastic too. I wholeheartedly agree with ya. And I have all 10 fingers and toes crossed that RE5 is launched for the Wii at launch as well.
I just finished playing Odin's Sphere and wow that was addictive 2D sidescroller rpg with high visuals. hope nintendo reads this >_>;
Or they could actually come out with a 2D version of Metroid, but they'd probably mess it all up... Anyone want to play some Super Paper Metroid?
