E3 2007: Kojima talks Metal Gear Solid 4 at the Sony press conference photo

Continuing an impressive and successful E3 Media & Business Summit press conference, Sony proudly introduced legendary Metal Gear Solid creator, Hideo Kojima, to discuss MGS4: Guns of the Patriots. Kojima said that this will be the very final chapter in the Metal Gear Solid story, one to tie up all the loose ends and bookend the saga. Kojima also claimed that this would be the last Metal Gear game that he'd direct, but ... Kojima always says that.

We were then treated to a brand new trailer, voiced with the English cast, for Guns of the Patriots, shedding more light on Snake's final mission. Detailing how Snake's objective is to find and eliminate Liquid as he plans an insurrection in the Middle-Eastern setting we've come to know and love, the trailer is epic, and sure to be posted on Destructoid very soon. The whole thing ended with a beautiful, albeit brutal, battle between Raiden and Vamp, which led into the glorious news that MGS4 would see a simultaneous worldwide release in early 2008. As a final point, a demo was also hinted at surfacing in Japan sometime in the near future.

The game looks gorgeous (far better than the awful screengrab I nabbed) and this old MGS fan is stoked as hell for what promises to be an awesome feather in Sony's cap, at least for the time being. Stay tuned to Destructoid for more news from the ongoing conference.

I don't get it why does it matter if they said it was exclusive now, they been saying that all along!

Ron never said they would announce a port at E3.

I've been waiting for this ever since he posted that fake news spoof.

Congrats Ronny! Your days are over, your credibility shattered. You even went through great lengths to make up a C&D story. I hope this gets 1000 straight comments of bashing your fake ass.

Let this be a lesson. Don't try to lie to the public for website traffic. You took the bait and failed. Gtfo and Stfo.

@Yayoo

It matters because this game is either gonna sell PS3's or sell Xbox 360's. And anything that has to do with Sony losing money is SERIOUS BUSINESS!!!11one

Tretton said it was exclusive.

Kojima did not.

It will show up on the 360. Mark it.

Holy fuck everyone is going crazy in the comments section of this post. People going Yay! or Boo! or HAHA! or just wait till 09 and then others calling out the destructoid staff.

There should be a day time soap opera about this. That would be entertainment.

I'm just wondering why people are calling Ron wrong now. When he never said they would announce a port at E3, I think he actually said it would be announced after E3.

I still wouldn't put it past it coming to 360 eventually just expect it to remain a PS3 exclusive for the next few years ala Sons of Liberty. It'll be released multiplatform with the likely rerelease as what happened with Substance.

Personally I want to play it so bad I'm going to have to try and scrape the money together (as a poor student) to afford a PS3. But I also need that new computer. Arrrg.

Anyone notice that Kojima said nothing about MGS4 being a PS3 exclusive, yet Mr. "The PS3 Is Dominating" Tretton kept repeating it in his typical broken record style? Umm yes odd don't ya think

@ SuMizzle

Seriosuly do you have that much of a hard on for Sony I mean I wanted them to win the platform wars but not like this not the way they treat there fans. Plus the Only MGS that has been an exclusive has been Metal Gear Solid 3-PS2 The rest have all been on other consoles:
Metal Gear-MSX ,PS2and NES
Metal Gear 2- MSX and PS2
Metal Gear Solid- PS1 and PC
Metal Gear Solid 2- PS2,PC and Xbox
Metal Gear Solid 3-PS2

I am not saying that it wont be exclusive for a few months before it goes on XBOX 360 (Which it will) BUT I am saying that it will go to Xbox360 this is fact. I happen to know this.

Who cares about third party exclusivity. The lack of monopolies in this biz anymore will cause any good business man worth his weight to sell it to as many gamers as possible. How the heck can these multi-million dollar games be funded? This is the age of 1st party exclusivity only.(unless people are bought out for a timed exclusive). This should actually spur competition to a healthy end of seeking to have the best port, etc. and NOT coause the demise of any company. As Sony and MS will aquire smaller companies to generate 1st title exclusivity. But who cares about third title exclusives anymore. I just hope they recognize the hardware differences and seek to make the best games for each console and let the gamers talk smack on which is best. So all this loss of third party party exclusivity is a moot point especially if you are still getting the game. If it isnt going to hurt the console's future what do you care if a fellow gamer on another system gets to play the same game you are playing? Hey the more the merrier. Were all gamers arent we-last time I checked MS and Sony are not US and the USSR and we need to choose good vs evil. Lets play games and play games in brotherhood not pissy little divisive bullshit. Life is too short.

So yeah, the document Ron W. talked about back when the whole 360 exclusivity story busted out, the one where you can see quite plainly that Sony has exclusivity for no longer than 1 year, it's still there.

Slee, I still don't see how MS had a weak showing. They didn't drop any bombs, but they showed a very solid lineup. That's all I asked for.

Anyway, MGS4 is not officially going to be a PS3 exclusive. Jack said it half-heartedly, and you know damn well that, if it were a 100%-confirmed PS3-only-forever exclusive title, Sony would've been crowing about it all over the presentation like a junior high boy who just got laid. You know that Kojima is exploring other options.

Slee. Shut the fuck up. Seriously.

It's not that I don't agree with what you're saying. It's that you're so freaking annoying. Just stop it. You're not and insider, and you're just pissing me off by copying and pasting other people's posts.

I'm fairly certain MGS4 will eventually hit the 360. It won't be nearly as close as a lot of people think it will be, but it will see a Microsoft release. That said, it won't stop the game from being a PS3 seller. Just as MGS2 sold PS2s by the bucket-load, so will MGS4. The era of the exclusive third party title is over.

That said, I distinctly recall this idiot over at Joystiq who kept making the claim that MGS4 will NEVER see release on the PS3. He said he would bet his house on it. He had 'insider' information.

You guys are freakin idiots. Kojima has said on more than one occassion that the game was PS3 exclusive. It was confirmed again at E3. And after E3, Moore admitted that even though it's still an exclusive, it's a game they'd still like to be able to get. Furthermore, Konami said that they will examine PS3 holiday sales before they even CONSIDER making a port. It's already confirmed that the PS3 version is the only one in development and if a port is made, Kojima won't have anything to do with it (he hasn't in the past either and the ports usually end up getting worse reveiws than the playstation original).

As for Slee... you sound like a teenager fanboy. A programmer for Microsoft wouldn't know anything about work on a port. Konami would be doing the port, not Microsoft you noob.
