Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

Our next feature presentation in tonight's Dtoid night at the movies is the new trailer for Killzone 2. As Niero mentioned, it does look a bit nicer than Halo 3 so far, and even has 80% more screaming in it. Take a look for yourself and see what you think before you download it from PSN later today, and keep an eye out for more details from our team of newsbots who are attending this year's E3.

Guys, we miss you and we can't wait to see what you've got for us this week. Also, we're out of Purple Drank in the employee lounge. Bring moar plz kthx.

I want the HD trailer with the comparison of the old pre-render side by side so I can be a snide judge.

Looks fucking close though.

They pulled off the overall look and effects very well but it leaps and bounds behind the prerendered stuff they put out.

Yeah, well, as I thought it doesn't look nearly as good as they claimed it would with their original CG movie trailer. This does not look as good as they promised, and I honestly am not impressed. Also, despite my dislike of anything Halo, I'm still not convinced this looks better than the newer video we got of Halo 3. Halo 3 ended up turning out looking much better than I expected, and this turned out worse looking than their initial claim. So Halo 3 is looking better to me.

But, screw both of them, both Call of Duty 4 and BioShock look better anyway in my opinion anyway. Besides, unless there were some major gameplay improvements over the first KillZone, this game will just suck ass hard but will look pretty doing it.

Seriously? The intro story-line scene looks average - once the fighting and first-person perspective kicks in it looks pretty hot though. Look at the terribly square faces, and the medicore explosion/fire on the falling ship. Yeah it's action packed and looks fun but it's nowhere NEAR that trailer. Not that *anyone* is surprised...

Wow i thought this was meant to be the PS3 savour.
Looks decidedly average, well apart from the intro when they are flying in...but this is a intro, not playable. Hmm Gears of War look on par if a bit better. Metal Gear will be the decider me thinks.

seriously, i think that looks rendered to hell. even the supposed gameplay looks like it could just be a rendered video, ill just to wait to see when they release an actual on stage gameplay vid. maybe im wrong, ill eat my hat if thats not rendered footage tho :p

I think it looks rather swish personally.

IMO it looks fucking fantastic they keep the great same Killzone art direction, but bump up the graphics. Hopefully, they've bumped up the A.I. and level design as well..just some of the faults of the first game.

I'm pretty partial to Killzone..I really enjoyed playing the first one and I'm sure this will justify me buying a PS3 (eventually).

It looks pretty damn good. I'm sure in HD it looks even better. But all I really care about for the PS3 right now is MGS4 and more MGS4.

@ emotaku

Insane how? The style looks boring, and generic. Graphically, sure, it's pretty. But it doesn't compare to the original CG video they had shown us before with the promise that would look exactly the same in-game. But obviously that's just BS, because this doesn't look nearly as good. As for the comparison to Halo 3, I'll admit I may have been exaggerating a bit.

But then again neither of them are all that great looking to me when we got games like BioShock, Call of Duty 4, and Assassin's Creed coming out not too long from now, and all three look better than either KillZone 2 or Halo 3 anyway in my opinion.

Also, KillZone 1 sucked ass, so like I said, unless they made some major changes to the gameplay it's going to be a crappy game with a pretty visual style. That's all. Halo 3 I don't even care about because I didn't like either Halo 1 or 2, the series is just overrated in my opinion.

I really wanted to see a first-person cover system in this, and it sort of looks like they delivered it where the player's firing over the top of some sandbags. Looks pretty good, as long as you weren't gullible enough to think it would actually be as realistic as the trailer. The explosions could use work, but looking at Heavenly Sword etc it seems like particle effects are among the last things to get finalised in any game.

lol@creed looking better than kz2.
are you kidding me?
the demoplay of ASScreed was a joke.
i can't/couldn't ever fathom why anyone was even slightly excited about it.

bioshock's art direction is amazing, and it does well to hide a lot of the lacking graphical cherries.

now, cod4...that's just unreal.

i say, KZ2 ftE3w, so far.

@Trevor

How much of Killzone did you actually play?

I wouldn't say any of the games you listed really look better..they look about on par with each other..they all 4 have totally different art directions..and obviously..Killzone's doesn't cater to you. I can hardly see how totally different art styles are "boring and generic". If anything deserves that title..give it to the Bad Boys 2 game.

I'm still amused that this franchise keeps getting so much support, just so Sony can have a 'Halo killer' FPS to show off.

Yes...holy shit..COD4...now I read the Game Informer article about it and it mentioned that when you wear the ghillie suit..it's impossible to see you, but when I saw the guy pop up from ground on the players left in the demo play...

Well..seeing is believing..I was in awe...this really is the year of the software.

I thought Assassin's Creed looked fantastic, but I think the selling point on that game is the interactivity among everything inside the cities. I thought the chase scene was great, and I'm really itching to play it.

Not quite as much as COD4 though..holy shit I'm still thinking about it..

I own KillZone. I got it a while back because it was cheap, and I wanted to see how the "Halo killer" really was. Now, being that I already hate Halo, it shouldn't be hard for any game to win me over in the "Halo killer" department, but KillZone was just crap in my opinion. Sorry. It was just your typical generic FPS experience, and it looks dull and bland. I played through quite a bit, but I just couldn't stand it anymore and it's now collecting dust, probably next to Halo 2.

Also, Call of Duty 4 does look better. BioShock, I think still beats it too. Also, despite the problems that was shown in the demo, I still thought it was more impressive and interesting looking. KillZone 2 is pretty much just boring looking to me.

@Ted, the cover systems in Gears of War and Vegas were both 3rd person (own Vegas for PS3, haven't played GoW yet but it looks pretty awesome, waiting for someone I know to get a 360). I'm just thinking that since the first one was very cover-based anyway, a proper cover system would work well for this one.

As for getting a decent PC, I'm sticking with my Pentium 3 thanks. I'd rather splash out once every six years or so than buy a PC and have to fuss around with settings all the time and buy a new graphics card every couple of years and a new motherboard every five years. That's just how I roll.

I own 360 and I love the range of games coming out on it (fanboy?). Furthermore I really dislike FPS in general (even if Bioshock looks spesh) but this looks pretty decent. I think it's grey on purpose to give it that 'gritty, urban' feel that we oh so love in the 21st Century. Yes, it's generic, but the PS3 needs something to quickly resurrect it - even Dreamcast had Sega Rally, Virtua Tennis and NiGHTS.

Seriously, this looks pretty decent if FPS is your bag, but I wouldn't say it's going to be the killer app Sony wants it to be.

I've got a 360 and I was really hoping that KillZone would be enough to make me save my pennies for a refurb PS3...so far, my reaction to the demo was..meh. I can take it or leave it. The graphics are really good, but honestly, in my opinion, no better than COD4, and thats on 360. I had the original Killzone and if this game is anything like that, I'll pass. Decidedly average gameplay, but a very pretty face. Kinda like that vapid hot chick in high school...great looks, but shallower than a puddle in the desert.

Halo 3 looks good too, but it looks like they've added enough to keep the franchise fresh...plus, its got a better story. For my cash, though...its all BioShock FTW!

Can't say I'm all that impressed. The I've seen better fire trails in Metroid Prime 2, and I have to say that RE4's fire effects trump these. The lighting is pretty nice, some good animation but there doesn't seem to be enough gameplay to get my attention.

I'm hoping Guerilla pushes it further. I didn't believe Killzone 2 would look good at all, but this looks incredible.

Guerilla Games will STRANGLE anybody who calls this a Halo killer; they've said this many times in the PS forums.

To be honest, I'm impressed. I think they did what they promised their fanboys. They did the best they could to get it as close to the prerendered trailer as possible. Surely alot of people didn't think it was going to look EXACTLY like it, I mean that'd be nice but.. No. Couldn't happen, it looked TOO ridiculous.
