One of the more defining moments of
Sony's E3 press conference was, for me, the unveiling of a new and interesting PlayStation Network title called
Echochrome. Its pure minimal style and emphasis on simple but clever gameplay seemed to go dramatically against Sony's current business model of shoving graphics and Blu-ray down our throats. In case you happened to miss one of the few surprises of this year's E3, here's the trailer that was shown after a boast that it contained the "least graphics, but the most gameplay."
The design is humble and clean, with the gameplay following suite. While it looks rather straightforward at first, one can imagine the fiendish liberties that the game's designers are sure to take with this level-manipulating puzzle game as it progresses -- just take a look at some of the intimidatingly complex levels shown later on. The emphasis on creating optical illusions of sorts to forge paths for your walking mannequin puts me in the mind of a very artistic, abstract Lemmings, which is not a bad thing at all. While also available for the PSP, this will hopefully be the first game to truly give Sony's PlayStation Network a legitimate kick up the backside. I can't wait to see how this one shapes up.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
though this game will probably be most fun for those of us who can think in 3-D space (no easy feat if you ever tried drafting or mechanical design).

It's splitting in haaaaaaaalf...
SONY you are going the right way.
soundz kewl 2 me
I will buy this for the PSP.
You got it all wrong. I said the game itself looks like a cheap flash game, but said it looks like something that should be on the DS because it could really use the stylus control scheme. I think the analog will probably suck for it.
But, the game, itself looks like a cheap flash game. First of all, where is the color or backgrounds? It just looks like one of those cheap stick figure flash games people make. Some one could easily make this game with flash.
This game looks artistically beautiful to me.
