Sony has finally announced a release date and price point for PlayStation Move. Motion control for the PS3 will debut in Europe on September 15th, followed by a North American launch on September 19th, and finally a Japanese release on October 1st. A single wand controller will cost $49.99, and the "Navigation Controller" (i.e., the Move's "Nunchuk") will run you an additional $29.99.
Two bundles will be available as well. For $99.99, you'll be able to get a bundle including the Move's Wii Sports clone, Sports Champions; a PlayStation Eye camera; a Move wand; and a disc full of Move demos. All of that plus a PS3 will cost $399.99 -- so you're not saving any money if you get the PS3 bundle.
At this price, is PlayStation Move something you're interested in?

Uh, no.
That bundle doesn't sound too bad, though.
@mrandydixon
Yeah, but you have to pay another $30 for the nunchuck!
@mrandydixon
Well nevermind then!
I liked what they showed, but its going to be expensive with whatever console you decide to go with.
I like that there's no shortage of fighting games for Move compared to Wii or Kinect... that's the real deal for motion control gaming. If one of them really strikes me I'd have no problem picking this up.
Considering 99% of the new generation of motion-controlled games are party mini-games... yeah, have fun playing by yourself, is all I'm saying.
I could get into fanboy rants about how Natal doesn't have to deal with stuff like that, but I won't. Sorry...Kinect.
Sold.
To be honest I would have paid more, just because of socom. Killzone is a real bonus too.
But with that said, still not getting it.
i was in the MS camp until i saw their wii family, and i'm now pleasntly surprised!
Sony, have you forgotten how to build excitement for your products? C'mon, you're not doing anything cheer-worthy. Don't you want the tech to be in peoples' homes? Don't you want to sell software to them? At this rate, the Move will be as successful as the PS Eye itself is.
It'll be a mere $99 to start playing games right out of the box, if you want to go in to games like Socom it'll be another $29.99. This is still under Natals price point. But ya if you want to have four people jumping around it will be a pretty penny not as much as you make out but a bit.
I'm actually willing to play this around $150 or so, just cause that fighting game really caught my eye, not the weird gladiator thing but the back street fighting. I would get it solely for that game though.
If it's the game I'm thinking, that looked like it needs two move bulb controllers.
$99.99 + $59.99 + $29.99 + $29.99 = $219.96
This is the total investment cost if you want two player action and a copy of Sports Champions. Ouch. Hardcore gamers will pay this price, but I don't see casual players opting to buy a new PS3 and this in lieu of a Wii. If they don't get a good adoption rate for this, we may see lackluster support.
Definitely cheaper than the Kinect if indeed that launched as $150 with no game.
Plus, more importantly, the Kinect looked lame and the Move looks good.
I'm wondering where you're getting your numbers from. The 99.99 bundle comes with a Wand, Eye, and Sports. To play Sports Champs you don't *need* a nunchuck. So shouldn't it look like this for 2 players to play Sports Champions?
99.99 + 49.99 = 149.98
Now if you want nunchucks for whatever reason, tack on (29.99 + 29.99) = 59.98
so 149.98 + 59.98 = 209.96
But again, you don't absolutely have to have the nunchuck for each player to play.
Price of a single game. Sweet.
Hrm.
@People saying Kinect is cheaper
Kinect does not come with a game from what I have seen thus far so saying it's cheaper and multiplayer OoB does not make sense as you need to drop another $59.99 on a game to play.
The difference is that Kinect is horrible. ;P
I think I will buy move.
Kinect has the opportunity to carry on using the controller, where one could preform an action with their hand in mid air to activate an action in the game i.e. Normal controlling for an RPG, air punch the air to use a fire spell.
Kinect also has full body motion tracking, which is a plus.
Kinect only needs one camera for many players doesnt it?
It only supports 2 players.
BUT, i have to say, it is costing me almost 100 bucks more for the move with my family than the kinect. So, my whole family can kick it and play kinect, where I have to drop another 80 dollars, PER PERSON (up to 4 obviously) for the MOVE. I really wish Sony would bundle TWO controllers together at least, I mean doesn't that make sense?, yes-because what gomer is gonna play party games ALONE.
yes, Kinect does come with a game bundle. Why wouldn't it. it would be STUPID to not bundle it, and MS is a lot of things, but stupid is not one of them! :)
Actually Wii Sports is a great game to play with family and friends(this is assuming you have either) and probably has gotten over 100 hours of play time alone at my house. Which is more play time than all of the other Wii games I have combined.
For say a family going for a console(lets say parents and 2 young kids) they can play together I see it as a either a Wii or a 360, the cost of 3-4 Move controllers is just ridiculous compared to the other consoles. Kinect isnt limited to 2 people, it was just what the demo software allowed.

For me the Move looks like my kind of thing if I already had a PS3, which I dont. The sort of games Id play would be socom or Killzone so I would only have one controller anyway.
But lets say you have a PS3 in your house already and dont have a Wii or 360. So ~200 for Move with 2 controllers is the cheapest way to go if you already own a PS3, plus another 80(50 IMO) per person and I very much doubt those party games require the Navigation Controller addon.
Its about 300 for a Wii+second controller with nunchuck, with another 70 per person(controller with Plus+nunchuck, most minigames dont require nunchucks).
450 for a new 360 and Kinect. My math might be a bit off, but if you have none of the consoles then 360 might be the way to go with 3-4+ people in the room playing games, not to mention no need for controllers or little children throwing them.
So IMO for a family console the Kinect wins out, and with no controllers I do in fact have family who would love to play games like that who dont normally play video games. But for me personally, as a gamer the Move has what I want IF I want motion control in video games, because I would only have the one controller.
