One of the drawbacks to having your motion controller look like a sex toy with a light on top of it is that it can't easily fit into a plastic gun so you can play on-rails shooters or FPSes on your system. Or can it?
A plastic gun shell for the PlayStation Move was spotted in Sony's booth on the floor at E3, and it actually looks pretty solid. Obviously, the issue of the light being covered is taken care of by the fact that it protrudes out the end, and the rest of the gun is even more self-explanatory. The gun uses the expansion port on the bottom of the Move to attach, so you probably aren't just pulling trigger on the gun to push the trigger on the Move, but instead are triggering an action with the trigger pull.
I apologize if that last sentence didn't make sense. Let me seamlessly move away from it by asking if anyone else is surprised at the orange and white colors. Maybe it's just a mock-up but it feels awfully retro, and I love it.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
That actually makes sense. My old light guns don't work with my LCD TV. Ugh.
Someone who is going hands on with Move at E3 needs to find out if the motion tracking even allows for it to be sighted like an actual gun or if it's going to have the same problems that Wii currently has of being a bit crap and not actually allowing you to shoot at the spot on the television that the remote is aiming at.
This thing seems to lack any sort of sighting mechanism on the gun attachment itself, at least nothing that wouldn't be blocked by the sphere on the end. If you can't aim down the barrel like you can with a lightgun this peripheral is going to be another useless piece of plastic crap just like the gun accessories for Wii.
Holding a real pistol grip, playing Killzone 3 and Socom?!?
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YEEEEEEEES!
I'm afraid not. Those games are most likely going to need the buttons that the pistol grip puts out of reach.
What we need is something that FEELS like a gun and WORKS like a lightgun. The grip on this looks pretty damn gun-like and I have some high hopes on the accuracy of the Move.
Developers can easily adjust how the Move controller's position is reflected on the screen, I'm pretty sure we're not going to be using this and holding it upwards or any shit like that.
Nice feeling Trigger and Grip is all i want.
I like it.
That is my number one concern with the Move. Light gun games are horrid on the Wii because it doesn't feel like a natural aim. I don't want a cursor that I move around. If it works well this and Time Crisis: Razing Storm is an instant buy. Gotta love the aesthetics of the gun too!
All this plastic crap and shovelware made me sell my wii last January.
Now guess what's happening with ps3..... (I won't even bother writing about natal/kinect thing). It's sad for me as a gamer......
also,
pew pew pew!
for everyone!
I'm far from sold on motion controls. I really want the Move to work for FPS, because aiming with that controller would be such a step up from analog sticks. Are the buttons for other commands easily accessible or can you use those with the secondary controller?
FPS requires quite a bit of button play. There are many commands that just won't work with only motion, sorry Kinect.

That's where the nunchuck type navigation controller comes in dude. (apparently you can just use the left side of a sixaxis too) Not to mention how there are clearly other buttons (looks like start/select) on the side of this thing, I wouldn't be surprised if there were more in the safety-switch spot on the other side.
Sadly, that type of aiming is not possible with current displays and these controllers. The realistic aiming of the NES Zapper worked because the gun had a camera inside the barrel, and when you pulled the trigger, the screen went black for a couple of frames and the ducks (or whatever) transformed into bright white squares, so no matter what was your angle or your distance from the TV, the camera could detect if you were actually pointing straight at the targets.
Today, with so many screen sizes and the absence of a camera INSIDE the controller, we can only expect Wii style aiming (that is, moving a reticle by tilting the controller) but not actual 1-to-1 aiming, unless you (and the developers) are willing to do a complex calibration via the eye-toy every time you move to the side or position the controller a couple of inches closer or farther from the TV.
What game has ever been that accurate on a console to require a sighting mechanism? I just point at the screen and go pew pew.
*My Skull just a Blew*
Also, as SexualeChocolate said... KILLZONE 3!
*My Brain just Fell Out*
Time Crisis looks awesome and with that gun who needs the arcade!?
I'd still prefer a real lightgun over a shell, but I guess that's a thing of the past. And anyone using this for a not-rail shooter is going to be severely disappointed when they realize that this cuts off access to pretty much every button on the wand.
Seriously, now its geting really ridiculous! I'd rather make a pew pew with my bare hands then touching this dildopistol!
Oh, I see... well that's disappointing but what about the technology the GunCon 3 uses? I haven't got one myself but I know it works with a hdtv. Couldn't something similar be used for the Move?
