E3 10: Having a hellish time in The Grinder photo

I am so happy High Voltage changed The Grinder into an arcade style action shooter as it has a very Gauntlet and Smash TV vibe going for it now. You and up to seven others will work together blasting through waves of enemies like werewolves, witches, vampires and more as you're clearing a town infested with monsters.

The Grinder is packed with a ton of over-the-top weapons to help you deal with the infestion and a number of the guns are specialized at killing specific types of monsters. For example, the stake gun kills vampires faster than any of the other weapons. Also, there is a chainsaw sword. CHAINSAW SWORD! There are a number of environmental hazards you can take advantage of too, such as giant grinders that enemies can be thrown into.

Another good thing High Voltage has done with Grinder is the overall presentation with its pulpy take. The game isn't taking itself seriously and what I was able to hear of the dialogue during my play time was pretty funny.

One thing I wasn't too fond of was with the team based quick time events. The example we were shown saw a character being choked out by a giant monster so the three other players needed to mash on specific buttons to save their partner. It's an interesting idea, but QTEs don't have a place in fast paced co-op games such as this as it just slows things down.

Aside from that aspect, I had a lot of fun going through the various areas blasting the f*ck out of every monster that we would come across. I also dig how there's a level of deepness with the combat with how certain weapons work better against specific creatures.

The Grinder will be out for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and Wii Halloween 2011.

I heard that the Wii version would remain an FPS. Is that still true?

I'm really hoping the Wii version is still an FPS. I was getting really excited for it, and I kind of don't like this style.

Fool me once (Zombie Apocalypse), shame on you. Fool me twice (this), shame on me.

Got an eye on this one now, getting a Zombies Ate My Neighbors feel.

Only a feel, though, it's no mean feat to make a good ZAMN clone

Anyone else enjoy the Hunter series back on the PS2 and Xbox? Same guys are making this right? That alone gives me hope. Although, I too was hoping for a FPS just because I love Left 4 Dead so much. I think I'm just in love with monsters in general.

"Also, there is a chainsaw sword. CHAINSAW SWORD!"

Megas XLR already has that. It was in the same episode that had the original voice actors from Transformers.

You're happy? At least someone is.

This looks LAME compared to the original FPS.

Is this for arcade? Because if they think this is worth more than say ten bucks....MEGA LOLZ

I don't know about Megas XLR other than it sounds like a workout machine lonely fat people buy off the tv at 3 AM on a Tuesday but if you want Chainsaw swords, this is what you need to look at:

so its not longer a l4d rip off?

well it started to get slightly interesting

i mean sure HVS is still a mediocre game company, but atleast they are trying to make something relatively original now

High Voltage Software only revealed that the 360 and PS3 versions of The Grinder would be a top down shooter. The Wii version is still supposed to be an FPS.

kthanxbai- the plot and setting and characters were in no way, shape or form a left 4 dead rip off. It was four player co-op in FPS. calling it a rip off is stupid.

and being unoriginal has never stopped a game from being great - halo rips off so much sci fi, yet redefined fps, gets rave reveiws and sells bucketloads, even if you are one of those people that hate popular things like halo, you cant deny it's achievements.
