Wasn't this confirmed a long time ago? Maybe that was just them saying they plan on making a sequel, but I thought I already knew this.
I don't feel the game is aptly compared to DMC, GoW, or Bayonetta as those games are all much more intensely combat-focused.
As a whole I think it is really much closer to something like the 3D Zelda games.
I loved it, even though I hated games like it (GoW and such, not Zelda. I loves me some Zelda.) Probably my favorite skill in the game was the one where War winds up and bats enemies a far distance. I loved smashing enemies into lava pits with that.
Have you even played God Of War????It's a completely different game, and it should stay that way. Darksiders is a dungeon crawler that just happens to borrow some of GOW's action elements, and elements from several other games as well. Maybe THQ should drop the whole dungeon crawler scene for Darksiders 2 and make it an all out action game, or a puzzler where you use portals to explore the environment? But then it wouldn't be Darksiders anymore would it???? Dumbass.
That said I liked Darksiders for what it was. It was a lot of fun, but it just needed to be a bit longer. Actually a lot longer. I'm pretty sure I cleared it in just a few days. I'll give part 2 a try for sure though.
Can't wait for this game but I hope they switch it up a little and not try and do a yearly franchise scenario.
Besides, Darksiders had one badass effin ending sequence =D

God of War is an action game that really isn't meant to be longer than 8hrs tops. Darksiders is a dungeon crawler that should have at least provided as much playtime as Zelda......Dumbass.
I can't think of any action game of the same caliber that can't be beaten in 5-10 hours. Games like that are meant to throw you into scenes full of fast action, killer attacks to use on tons of enemies, and graduating difficulty levels that challenge you to play again. If it has a decent story to boot then that's typically a bonus. Start adding level exploration, advanced leveling up, item collection, or puzzles and you start to get something different. You get Darksiders. ............ Dumbass. (yes I do like that word)
I'll agree with you on GOW 1 and 2 feeling longer, but I think the answer there is they just "feel" longer. The story in GOW3 hussles you along, and it's supposed too. Kratos was hell bent on swift revenge. And that's where Darksiders needed a little help. They needed to draw War's investigation into events out a little more. The story and the game were over too quick. It was fun while it lasted though.
You should definitely give it a spin. It's not mind-blowingly good or anything, but you'll be surprised by how much fun you start having and how much there is to do. It's pretty much a Zelda clone but with deeper combat and more customization options. It's occasionally frustrating, but does so many things well that it's hard to fault. My favorite feature: Unlike almost every other game that involves cliff-scaling and ledge-crawling (GoW, Zelda, Uncharted, AC), in Darksiders you move QUICKLY while climbing, scaling, and hanging. Seriously, I can't believe all those other designers are clinging so tightly to realism. This was the first time in a game where I didn't groan while having to ledge-jump or cliff-scale.
The devs of darksiders stated the whole way through that they were trying to use the good points of zelda and metroid and other games etc. It's not about ripping off. It's about taking what works and building something cool on it. All games use innovation through iteration. Every game iterates on other's ideas. Darksiders was simply more honest, open and positive about doing it.
