Well, the three big conferences are finally over and now we have some time to reflect on what went down. Microsoft kicked it off and blew people's minds with Project Natal, Halo Reach, Final Fantasy XIII and more, Nintendo introduced a stunning-looking new Metroid title AND Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Sony thrilled audiences with The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy XIV and tons more. All in all, it was a pretty incredible showing, and we can't wait to get our hands on these games!
It's easy to say one press conference or another "won" as the best, but we have another question for you: which press conference spoke most directly to you as a gamer and gave you what you wanted. For me personally it was Sony, as I've wanted a new Team ICO game more than anything in the world and that's exactly what I got, but I loved all the conferences. Weigh in and tell us which one resonated with you the most!
Honestly? Sony. I know a lot of their material was released prior to the show, but taking it for what it was supposed to be, they did a great job. Microsoft was a close second.
My issue with Microsoft is that their Natal showing was mostly an improvement on the PS3 EyeToy, but it was primarily scripted and very rough. Sony's show looked ridiculous, but the last portion was beautiful considering the control and 1:1 movement smoothness.
So, it ends up being based on games and I'm more interested in the PS3 games shown and enjoyed more in-game play. Alan Wake looked great, though.
Nintendo all the way this time around. Sony's was definitely good, too, but not quite the same thing, but maybe that's just the nostalgia talking. :P Microsoft completely underwhelmed me.
Sorry about the random answers in the poll guys -- we replaced them and now the right one is up. I guess answer 5 is your answer if none of the other ones fit! =P
All the demonstrations I have heard of the Natal don't actually use the hardware. They are using far advanced camera hardware and extremely well lit studios for their demonstrations.
I will be mighty impressed if Natal performs just as well when it comes to the final retail product.
Honestly, I have to go Sony. They brought a lot of stuff for me to be interested in. That being said however, I found something to love in all of them.
I say answer 5: They all met my expectations pretty well, honestly. Nintendo was business drab, but had a shocker at the end. Microsoft showed me the usuals, and surprised me a bit. And Sony showed the goods, and...surprised me a little!
So yeah. No huge dissappointments. I love my hobby. :)
I would say Nintendo because they actually had stuff this year that wasn't completely RETARDED! I'm really looking forward to their new Metroid title. Sony would be a close second and Microsoft came in a very close third for me.
FF7 coming to PSN
FF 14 came out of nowhere
Last Guardian
Amazing Uncharted footage
Motion controls that actually looked pretty damn good
A few new exclusive IP's
And I think they may have actually convinced me to drop $250 on a PSP Go by showing all that new PSP software.
Honestly I don't see how anyone could say Nintendo blew you away, but I guess thats the beauty of an opinion. I watched the whole thing and never have been so bored in my life watching something to do with video games. But I guess thats probably why I sold my Wii, got too bored with it.
I was awed at MAG, it was like my fantasies for onling gaming come true, did you see the size of the map? It was huge, and had a hell of a lot going on at once.
The line up speaks for itself, and the bomb was dropped with FF14, which came out of nowhere, to surprise everyone.
Microsoft spoke to me most as a gamer. Not because of the games, but because they knew that I didn't want to hear sales crap and just showed games for 2 hours.
Microsoft! Although all 3 were great. I honestly think Nintendo was the least.. exciting. And that is saying a lot considering my DS and I are like this! *crosses fingers*
Microsoft: A lot of games we wanted to see, not many surprises but a few ones including Left 4 Dead 2 and Crackdown 2. The one big surprise was Metal Gear Rising. Hideo Kojima's entrance was classic. I'm not completely sold on Natal, but the interaction with the tech is amazing.
EA: Nothing new really, it was all good and fine
Ubisoft: Worst of the show by far. When your conference starts with James Cameron practically jerking off to his own greatness for half and hour and not even show a screen shot? That is when you know you're in for a long night.
Nintendo: BIG step up from last year. Still a lot of stuff I don't care about. The Wii Vitality Sensor? WTF moment of the show. What hitters they did have were pretty big. Super Mario Bros Wii, SMG2, Metroid Other M, Golden Sun DS, ALL WANT.
Sony: Heavy hitters that is for sure. In comparison between Microsoft, I feel Sony's exclusives are taking the lead. Uncharted 2 looks amazing, MAG is too awesome to be true, and God of War 3...jeeeeeeeeze! So awesome.
Nintendo. New Super Mario Bros Wii + Super Mario Galaxy 2 + Metroid: Other M = Nerdgasm.
Plus, they showed some third party support this time, which is always nice.
Sony and Microsoft did a very good job too. Overall, great E3, I would say.
I have to go with the people that showed me God of War 3, Uncharted 2, and MAG.
Splinter Cell looks good and I want to learn more about Metroid, but there was also lots of stupid health "games" and finding out later that Left 4 Dead 2 was going to be the same weightless-guns-on-rollerskates thing that put me off the first one.
Out of everything I personally saw, and I can't believe I am saying this, Microsoft did the best. Their speakers were more charismatic, they were professional, and their products were all fairly impressive (even though I still say Milo is Skynet and Natal gives some weight to the "murder simulator" argument). Nintendo has an edge over Sony for their few surprises (two Mario games and a Metroid, awesome). When I saw the tech demo for Sony's motion controls, I was wondering why everything looked like a low level openGL project, and while some things (Peacewalker, Drake 2) where neat, others I could honestly care less about (MAG, FFXIV).
Unsurprisingly, Sony pulled the "LOL MEGAHURTZ" and "LOL SALES" card, but they had some sweet demos and FF14 rocked my face off. Metal Gear PW is looking very promising too.
I'ma have to go with Microsoft though cause went hard early, they got Metal Gear on their side, Natal came out of nowhere and was more impressive than Sony's magic wands.
Nintendo's conferences are always good because of camp value. I loved how one of the people playing the new super mario bros died on the first goomba. i was also surprised by the notion of Team Ninja making a Metroid game
Microsoft's was good with the highlight's being Kojima and the L4D2 trailer. Natal looks awesome but it doesn't strike me as do-able, I don't think it's gonna have that many applications in the near future.
I wasn't blown away when I first saw Sony's conference but by the end I realized the massive amount of games and the amount of genres they covered and I was blown away. I'm still not convinced by the motion controller but since it's more "Wii-like" it seems like it would be easier to develop for since more developers already have some experience developing for the Wii.
Sony. I'm looking forward to all those psp games, not to mention the slew of awesomeness coming to the ps3. And that motion control wand they demomstrated really got me excited
Sony won the show. Their motion tech looked more accurate than anything nintendo or microsoft had to offer. Even wii motion plus looks a little meh. It might pick up orientation but I think it's going to have trouble with location if the tip isn't pointed at the sensor. Sony has the camera tracking the wand to fix that.
On top of the motion tech you have a PSP line up that PSP owners have been waiting for years for. Metal Gear, Resident Evil, Gran Turismo, Jak and Daxter, FF7, and a ton of other titles we already know about. This was already shaping up to be a great year for the PSP (Soul Calibur, Little Big Planet, Rockband) but with these 5 sony is going all out and as someone said already I think it's the best platform this year. Who saw that coming?
Their PS3 line up was also really solid. My jaw dropped when I saw the background city Uncharted 2.
Second place goes to microsoft. They had a solid lineup but it was a bunch of stuff we already knew about. MGS: Rising was sort of a meh announcement for me. I wanted MGS 4 seeing as I don't own a PS3. They also didn't sell me on their motion tech. It looks mostly casual. L4D 2 was an insulting announcement considering I wouldn't call the first game a complete package.
It wasn't all bad though... Splinter Cell Conviction and Alan Wake got me turned on and I can't wait to play both.
Nintendo gets last again. Will someone lock Cammie in a closet when E3 rolls around next year? While SMG Galaxy 2 is a big announcement and I will be buying it... I'm a little upset it's just a clone of the first game. I mean I'm used to the 3d Marios each having their unique little traits.
The Metroid game has me curious. I mean some of the animations looked amazing while other stuff looked meh. I'm also half worried about Team Ninja without Itagaki and most of the lead devs he took with him. Rising Sun DS should be major for some but I don't really have any attachment to the series.
Aside from these three games the entire presentation was pretty terrible. Wii Vitality Sensor really had me laughing for a good 10 minutes. Even during the big announcement that followed it I was still laughing my ass off. Last year I would have been pissed but I wasn't since I've stopped caring about the platform.
I honestly really enjoyed all 3 conferences. In about 24 hours we just saw how different the future of video games will change. I am now wanting a PSP (Go) now more than ever.
But if I didn't choose #5 I would have chosen Sony. I was moaning out loud in pleasure over the Uncharted 2 demo. The game is made of fucking win!!!
Dtoid's been a bit sloppy with some of their coverage(mostly just missing details with announcements), but if you took any source's reports as truth, instead of waiting for the show, then you're at fault.
Sony showed stuff we've already seen and a glow stick. Nintendo showed a lot of sequels and a pulse thing nobody cared about. Microsoft showed no games I want and a teaser of a multi platform Metal Gear game with a character I didn't like from MGS2.
Sony won on default. The camera was cool but I was fooled by the wii and I won't be fooled again. PSP GO is a retarded upgrade for $80.
None of them really wowed me... but I think Sony did the best job convincing me that I am right in owning all three pieces of their hardware. They have done a great job providing support to each of them (i'm especially shocked by the psp support/growth), have a good roadmap for the PSNs future, and are expanding the PSP/PS3 connectivity possibilities.
I'm surprised people liked the Nintendo show. I mean, it had a few good announcments, but IMO, they're still pissing on the shoes of the non-casual, actual-gamer demographic, and neither Iawata or Cammy could pass as a public speaker. Simple set, no energy, no showmanship.
MS nailed it in my opinion. If you're asking what confrence I liked best, not which console or mascot character I like most, I can't see MS being challenged - THAT is how you do E3. Huge set, lots of A/V, big games, big names, lots of WOW.
Ubisoft, failed, badly.
EA and Sony both did fine jobs on the whole. I was not impresed by their too-early for public consuption tech demos of the Sony wand, but other than that they had a massive screen and a good amount of gameplay.
I missed the Nintendo conference, but, judging from what news I've seen, there was nothing interesting for me anyhow. So, between Sony and Microsoft, I have to go with Microsoft. They just had more games that appealed to me, and Project Natal really wowed me, despite the glitches. Sony still had an impressive showing though, and I'm now convinced that I will be getting a PS3 in the near future. Their new motion sensing controller was pretty amazing and seems to be much farther along in development than Project Natal, but I think Project Natal just has so much more potential (Milo, for ex.). Either way, an all around good show.
Though the Sony guy did have a point about motion control, some games just NEED buttons. For example, I can't picture playing a shooter with Project Natal without some sort of trigger-thing in my hand. Unless it can pick up such sublte movements as bending your index finger o.O
All three had sweet stuff that I look forward to. Voted Microsoft almost randomly, but the Natal thing was really cool (skeptical as one might be) mainly for the thought of playing a fighting game as was shown.
I haven't gotten a change to watch the Microsoft one yet, but I was really blown away by Sony's press conference. I expected it to suck... and now I'm looking to finally purchase a PS3 based on what I saw. (I'm a poor college student; all I have is a DS and a laptop right now.)
Nintendo, on the other hand, sent me into a rage at all the catering to the tween-and-twentysomething female demographic. I want decent games on the DS--it's a decent platform, yet doesn't get the respect it deserves, especially from its own parents. I don't want some shit "Women's Murder Club." What the fuck, Nintendo.
I'm an unabashed Nintendo fangirl, but even I have to say that Sony and Microsoft did the best. They know what kind of audience is watching E3 and played to that demographic with the most game info, trailers, and live demos.
EA and Nintendo did well, but focused too much on casual games, a mistake that I thought at least Nintendo would've learned from after last year.
Ubisoft was terrible, and I already voiced my thoughts on why earlier this week. :[
Microsoft put out the best show, but they where lacking in big game anouncements, in wich Sony delivered. Nintendo also renewed my faith in them a little, even though they had the most boring conference.

Sony and Nintendo tie for second.
Ubisoft gets an honorable mention, because Rabbids Go Home is instant "I could mess with this for months" customization frenzy.
So yeah. No huge dissappointments. I love my hobby. :)
2.) Microsoft
3.) Sony
Metroid blew my mind. Milo scared the shit out of me. Translators using note pads FTW!!!
FF7 coming to PSN
FF 14 came out of nowhere
Last Guardian
Amazing Uncharted footage
Motion controls that actually looked pretty damn good
A few new exclusive IP's
And I think they may have actually convinced me to drop $250 on a PSP Go by showing all that new PSP software.
I mean, really, they just killed it today.

I thought it was too soon for Left 4 Dead 2, but I was wrong. I call playing the chick again!
Splinter Cell looks good and I want to learn more about Metroid, but there was also lots of stupid health "games" and finding out later that Left 4 Dead 2 was going to be the same weightless-guns-on-rollerskates thing that put me off the first one.

Also, Alan fucking Wake. Nuff said.
Microsoft's was good with the highlight's being Kojima and the L4D2 trailer. Natal looks awesome but it doesn't strike me as do-able, I don't think it's gonna have that many applications in the near future.

My personal pick is Sony.
