Hideo Kojima's appearance at the Microsoft press conference was something special. As he walked onto the stage, we thought
Metal Gear Solid IV was no longer a rumor. Silly us. What Kojima had to share,
Metal Gear Solid Rising, was arguably better than a mere port of a PlayStation 3 exclusive.
The video above is the unveiling of Metal Gear Solid Rising at the E3 press conference. You’ll see Kojima walk confidently across the stage and check out the teaser footage of the upcoming not-so-exclusive upcoming Metal Gear Solid game.
So, now that you’ve had some time to digest the information, what do you think? Are you ready to control Raiden again?

In all honesty, I wanted a new ZOE more than a new MGS game. I feel we have had too much MGS over the years and I'd love to see something else from kojima.
I thought I would be more excited at the announcement, but all I felt was 'ok,cool' and that's it.
Maybe there is still hope for a ZOE game, who knows....
So basiclly he's saying M$ doesn't have anything left to buy?
Man I never thought I'd ever see the day when some franchises like Devil May Cry, Grand Theft Auto, Final Fantasy, Tekken, and Metal Gear Solid would ever grace any console besides Playstation.
Guess I was wrong.
Either way I'm still gonna play his game on PS3 regardless.
Objection!
Hideo Kojima: Pardon, I didn't say anything about Solid Snake.
I like Kojima's little trick.
I am worried about this too....I am worried that this game (through multiple disks) will prove that there isn't anything that you can do on the PS3 that can't also be done on the 360....
I'll still give this game a chance, but he better be all over himself after realizing he has more to live for than being a whiny cunt. And for god's sake he better have better dialog than "it even rained the day I was born."
I'll still buy it, and I'll still love it, and I'll still hate it. Just like all the other MGS games I've played, although the love/hate ratio for MGS2 is definitely heavier on the hate side. grumble grumble grumble...
Its either Raiden coming back from his ending. In which case, that's just not right. At all.
Or, its Sunny, and the Colonel is just plain senile and/or speaking metaphorically "Raiden (or something like him) is back". When Sunny figures out what happened in MGS2, I reckon she's going to be pissed.
Also, that "dum dum duuurm" at the start was great stuff.
MGS: The Emo Whimp goes through his Period and becomes a Man... as a Half-Cyborg with not e-penis.
What that 'something' is remains to be seen, though. Like Kalmah said, it might be a watered down MGS game, but it takes more than available disk space to make a good game. If a crappy game was released on BR disc then you've got yourself up to 52GB of crappy game--what am I saying??? We're talking about METAL GEAR SOLID, here!
Uncompressed Audio is not necessary. The cut scenes are the only thing I could see chewing up space as Japanese developers dislike using in-engine cutscenes.
However, I don't believe this game will be on more then one disc. Other then that, everyone knows the 360 has a slight edge in terms of graphics horsepower. If anything MGS should look *better* on the 360 as opposed to the PS3. It has twice as much usable ram for textures, Free 2x AA and the USSE pipeline.
anyone else upset its not a prequel/ or MG1 remake ?
Well MGS games have always used in-engine cut scenes, And your last sentence will no doubt start a console war in here.
I agree. If the game is multiplatform, it most definitely will have cut scenes. Also if it's multiplatform it will be least common denominator component-wise, so it will look the same across the board.
Also, I don't think any console war will start. I know the Cell Processor kicks the smack out of the 360's IBM CPU. Different strengths and weaknesses. Many developers have constantly said Graphics pushing wise the 360 has a *slight* edge.
I am trying to put out fires on both sides. The 360 camp is saying Sony is doomed (Which it isn't) and the Sony camp is saying the 360 can't handle it.
Honestly, if MGS Rising is on multiple discs, I don't see it being more then a two-disc set.
Anyways now I got the flame bait out of the way, Im excited for this game. I didnt mind controlling Raiden in MGS2 and this was one of my hypothesis about the next metal gear game. Im hoping they will really exploit the whole Ninja thing because it can open up the gameplay alot. However I still think that this game will be a back and forth story between Raiden in the present and Big Boss in the past. Switching between locals and story lines but still having them intersect some where down the line. I think that would be great narrative. As for the limitations Im not worried really. As long as the game is comming to PS3 and there wont be any bullshit timed exclusive, lets hope sony wont let MS do that.
I'm glad to see MGS hit the 360 and I'm actually delighted to see that it's going to be a fresh experience. I was hoping the Kojima announcement wouldn't be MGS-related at all, but a fresh take on the series is welcome.
Thanks Kojima!
Killzone 2 looks amazing and is easily the best looking console game so far. KillZone 2 is one (the only?) of the few PS3 titles that use part of the cell for rendering to offload work from the GPU.
Having said that, the PS3 does have 512 MB of RAM, but only 256 MBs of it is actually fast ram used when rendering.
So that is a limitation that affects the Xbox 360. Should I be upset that the PS3 is forcing Kojima and co. to only use half of the ram available to the Xbox 360?
So the "Limitations" you speak of, goes both ways.
The PlayStation 3 is a fantastic system. It is the superior system in this generation of consoles. However, the 360 *does* win in some areas. Why is this so controversial? MGS Raiden should be a decent game and it will look the same on both consoles.
If there were any 360 fanboys spouting off in these comments I would correct them as well.
With the main Solid Snake story finished I figured he would start a new chapter and call it "Metal Gear ______". But that's just nit-picking. Despite it not being a new IP I'm still excited because MGS is the best thing ever, and if this does indeed come to PS3 I am happy, as MGS is the only reason I picked a PS3 over a 360. So for another MGS game to come out only on 360 would make me a sad panda.
2. It was FRANCHISE. THERE IS HOPE FOR MGS1-3.
3. If it IS a hack-n-slash with no stealth elements at all, it better be DAMN WELL POLISHED.
4. What was that picture of Big Boss on the site for? Just hype? Maybe he'll announce another MGS featuring him. With pure MGS-brand stealth and trickery.
Does the errorbox do anything other than FPS?
; )
Since he's been badgered so much for a MGS4 game on the 360, you should be thankful that he's only doing the next game in the series, and not MGS4 as well. Otherwise, he'd be overloaded with work.
@ BrainLazy;
Good job trying to put out fires on both sides of this debate, but it looks like Sexualchocolate wants to put an entry forward for Fanboy Friday. ¬_¬
