E3 09: Sony touts acne as a next-gen game feature photo

I've heard of bump mapping, but this is ridiculous.

Sony let us know that only the PS3 has the power to render detail so fine that the characters even have acne. We had the privilege of seeing the amazing Heavy Rain up close, but maybe this was particular close up was too close for comfort. We're talking whole-screen face here.

"He's got acne. I don't think acne on an actor in a game ever before," Sony says of Heavy Rain character Norman Jaden.

Scars are old. Pores are so last year. Acne is where it's at, according to Sony. Microsoft, where's your acne at?

Look forward to our full video interview and preview of Heavy Rain soon.

Finally! Now Sony is 100% certainly the best. Bringing back those great childhood memories. Nothing else has been done that could bring back childhood moments as well as this.

What the heck is with the black time bar in the video? I doubt Heavy Rain will have better graphical rendering than Crysis 2.

I just feel bad for the dude since it seems that he's not used to talking on camera and he just focused on the acne part a lot.

All this "our processor is extra magic because..." needs to stop. Normal mapping a red bump isn't exactly brain surgery. Is the gaming field so crowded that to stand out you put zits on your characters?

Do Sony reps frequent 4chan?

I guess you COULD use those weird motion controllers to pop a zit... Beetween avatar shoes, gaming acne and finger-trapping, I'd say this has been a fairly entertaining E3

How about less symmetry in the character models, that's always been a peeve of mine.

Maybe they'll incorporate the PS Eye for that minigame. Then you could use your fingers to pop them...

Fucking silly. Brilliant, but fucking silly. Next: PS3 is the only console that can render nasal hair.

Sony CEO: "We're finding more and more gamers are demanding ever more realistic details in the character models. To that aim we have come up with the revolutionary NasalTM engine 1.0. This brand new engine will render hairs in the and around the nostril area so accurately you will be able to tell the intended age of the avatar. The engineers have been working so hard on this, one guy even game up with a program for rendering different bogeys to cling to the hair depending on what environment the character is in. Sony loyal gamers will be pleased to know that their hard-earned money is being wasted on pointless cosmetics. But at least you'll be able to tell your rival system owners who got the boogers, man."

People get their panties in a twist when they are able to see sweat pouring from a boxer's face, so this is just a natural progression.

... Because everyone wants the graphics so realistic, you can see each individual zit on a game character's face.
