E3 09: Sony announces new Rockstar exclusive Agent photo

Teasing us with some new information, Jack Tretton announced that Rockstar is developing a new title exclusively for the PS3: an international spy thriller called Agent. Set in the dark world of the late 1970s (hey, that's when Peace Walker is set!), this title will "take players around the globe."

And that's all that they've announced on the title. Much like their Resident Evil announcement, details are scarce, but I'm sure we'll be hearing more soon. Not surprisingly, Tretton said that the title will have the same level of desiriability of GTA IV. Still, let's see how things turn out.

And who knows, he could go on to fight Big Boss. He certainly is an international threat.

[Update: Rockstar has sent out a press release about Agent, with a few more details on the title. Check it out after the jump.]

Rockstar Games Announces Agent Exclusively for PLAYSTATION®3 System

New York, NY – June 2, 2009 - Rockstar Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), is proud to announce Agent. Developed by the people behind Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar North, Agent will be available exclusively for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.

"We have always enjoyed making action games, and with Agent we are making what we believe will be the ultimate action game," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "Agent is a game we have wanted to make for a long time. The team in Edinburgh is doing an amazing job combining intense action, atmosphere and story in a great period setting to create something that feels quite unique. We cannot wait for people to experience this game."

Agent takes players on a paranoid journey into the world of counter-intelligence, espionage and political assassinations during the height of the Cold War at the end of the 1970s.

Here's our new exclusive game! We have a logo and no media whatsoever! Ok, see you next year!

Can I expect a sandbox game with carjacking spies?

Not exclusive, it's coming to 360 at least six months after release (Unless Sony paid for it to be exclusive).

Remember GTA III, Vice City, Red Dead Revolver, Manhunt, Bully, etc. Remember how "Exclusive" all those games were. They were released on an Xbox platform at some point or another, and I'm calling it now: Agent will follow the same trend. You can maybe pay them off for exclusive DLC, but not a full-fledged game.

How many times has a gun been used to form a G in a logo?

And I thought I was cynical. You guys sound like overly jaded gamers. As if a CGI trailer somehow makes the game better or more likely?

Anyway, usually Rockstar games are good, so let's hope this one is as well. Probably won't be released until late 2010, early 2011. Hope L.A. Noire isn't cancelled.

Why don't they tell us about L.A. Noire?

Well we all know just how expensive Rockstar exclusivity can be cough*50 million just for DLC*cough so either Sony has good pockets even in recession time or this will eventually see multi-platform release.

@ The people doubting exclusivity

Anyone remember E3 2008, Sony themselves stated that apparently for letting GTA4 go multiplatform (Yeah I know PR talk), they were able to buy the rights to Rockstar's next "great" IP which they confirmed was not L.A. Noire and not Red Dead Redemption they really were specific in stating that it was a new IP.

Technically this is really exclusive to Sony since apparently they own the IP. I'll view Sony's E3 08 to make sure
