E3 09: Rumortime! Does Metroid: Other M have a release date? photo

Intrepid reader Tobbii sent us in a video he put together breaking down the Metroid: Other M video, attempting to discern any secrets from it. Since so few details are available at the moment, there's a lot up for interpretation. But there was one interesting detail that he noticed, right around the 2:40 mark.

Yep, the possibility that they've already teased us with a release date! Could the game be coming out on March 25, 2010? Well, there's nothing more I can say other than check the video out after the jump and let us know your own thoughts on the matter.

I really hope Nintendo doesn't let Team Ninja take some liberties with the story. The ninja gaiden series has not been too epic in a narrative sense. Also the voice acting sync has got to be fixed.

Sorry for the nitpicking but I'm REAL sensitive when it comes to metroid, it's possibly the only nintendo franchise left without a bad entry.

I am with Wintersocks. Who cares if that is the release date, or if it is some other time in 2010. It's too far off to get excited about it.

I really hope this is as epic as Prime was when it first came out. Such a great game.

@Wintersocks Oh, I know, but some people might latch onto this. It's like ARG stuff -- it's not going to interest everyone, but for some it'll be really interesting.

Damn it, I love Super Metroid! Greatest Game Ever!

I really hope this game doesn't suck. I found Team Ninja's other games to focus on flash rather than actual gameplay so I hope that this team takes Metroid seriously.

@Brad Rice

I know. I hate it when people go all Da Vinci Code with this stuff. Like with a certain teaser website.

personally i hated what i played of prime which is admittedly not a whole lot. i felt it being in first person betrayed the skillful platforming style of super metroid.

the third person stuff in this game looks a lot more like what i would like to see in a non 2d metroid game. shame i'll never get to play it because i don't own a wii, and probably never will.

side note: mother brain's attack beam looks totally different to the one i remember on the snes. was it changed in the VC release?

Judging from this early video - I think this game is going to be the AIDS of Metroid.

What I am not digging : anime style, 3rd person fighting (seriously, wtf, Samus bare knuckle brawl!), 3rd person in general, linear looking environments, morph ball?

Like any band, when a game company says they're going in a darker, more edgier direction it will only end in fail.

Well Nintendo R&D 1 is working with them. So I'm sure they will have Team Ninja on a tight leash, to make sure that they don't screw anything up!

Considering how often Nintendo delays their games, I don't believe any release date they say. I'm not even convinced New Super Mario Wii is going to come out this year.

I can't believe I missed the Mother Brain screens though.

just so you know fromagex......

all games in europe (i used to manager an EB games in AUS which falls under EUR releases) launch on a thursday.

If the missile date was correct.... that would fly especially over here, perhaps EUR gets it first like we do some Nintendo games

Metroid: Prime...time weather report after the news.

Someone get on this. NOW.

@Ben

For what it was I think it was pretty successful. It did have a lot of innovations for a first person ds game (fluid controls, good graphics). The online experience wasn't too bad either (minimal lag and, albeit extremely archaic, a voice chat system between matches). Probably one of the weaker entries, yes, but innovative nonetheless.

Yeah, I agree with naia. That might be like the target date at team ninja's offices but they know if would be risky to commit to it.

Isn't "Team Ninja" known as "Tokyo Vikings" now and aren't they working on a 360 exclusive? I guess Tecmo kept the name even though 20+ devs left with Itagaki....

Knowing Nintendo, I highly doubt that they would let Team Ninja dumb down Metroid to the point where it becomes nothing more than action porn.
@ GameraTheGreat: I believe that's the team Itagaki formed when he left Team Ninja.

Story? Story?! Who cares about the story? The early metroid series skimped on the story and went straight to the killing!

GameratheGreat: Yeah, that's the name of Itagaki's new team. Team Ninja still exists, as they're the ones producing Sigma 2 and this new Metroid. But you're right, most of the main developers from Team Ninja moved on to create Tokyo Vikings with Itagaki.

Depending on where this game will take place I hope there will be a Chozo in it, or at least some flashbacks of her being trained by them.

He keeps saying "Flashback! Flashback!" but what about the more obvious conclusion? That being, this is a prequel to Metroid 1, or possibly spans from before Metroid 1 through the events of Metroid 3? My bet is that this is a prequel to the first game, that's why we see Adam Malkovich and young Samus. None of this flashback nonsense.
