Even though I obviously flipped out about some of Nintendo's announcements this morning, I have to admit I was very disappointed that there was no footage (not even a word!) of Pikmin 3. The Wii sequel was revealed at Miyamoto's round table during E3 last year, so I was sure it would have been shown at this year's conference.
But, as I was wiping away my tears, I was directed to an interview with Reggie Fils-Aime at IGN.
When asked why Pikmin 3 was not shown at the press conference, Reggie had this to say:
"Matt, we're all about surprises. We will show that game when it's ready. At the right time. Close to when it's going to be launched. It's not there yet. But Mr. Miyamoto still has his round table to do, so maybe you'll see. Maybe you might get that surprise after all."
So, there is still a chance to see the next game in my beloved Pikmin series! Woo hoo! But will it happen? What do you think? Do you think Reggie is just being sassy with his words, or could Nintendo still reveal more in the next couple days (remember: Super Smash Bros. Brawl was revealed a day after the press conference two years ago)?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I really hope they announce it soon. :)
I was really surprised when there wasn't a mention of Pikmin 3 at the press conference. Why did they go through the trouble of re-releasing Pikmin for Play-On-Wii? With the Metroid Prime's getting the Play-On-Wii treatment and a new Metroid being announced, I assumed this meant Pikmin 3 was a definite.
Does this mean a new Mario Tennis and Donkey Kong game as well?
Smash Bros. Brawl wasn't shown during the conference in 2006 but was shown the next day.
"It's not there yet."
Can Nintendo do no right? The alternative is to let the hype for a game spiral out of control, as they found out the hard way with Twilight Princess and Brawl. I can't blame them for being cautious with their announcements after that.
What? I'm not trying to bash Nintendo. I like their late announcements, which is why I said "sometimes". It's the people that don't realize that's the way they do things is what bothers me. They act like Nintendo doesn't do anything just because they don't announce it two years earlier.
By the way, I loooooved the hype for Brawl.
