E3 09: Peter Moore announces EA Sports MMA photo

It looks like THQ might have some competition for its well-received UFC 2009 Undisputed game. At EA's E3 press conference, EA Sports president Peter Moore unveiled the newest addition to the EA Sports stable of games, EA Sports MMA (presumably, it's a working title).

The title is in development at EA Tiburon, the team behind EA's Madden NFL, NCAA Football, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour franchises, and it'll be available in 2010 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Hit the jump for the press release, which doesn't really say anything more than what we just told you. I, for one, am intrigued about this title. I'll be keeping a close eye on it. See what comes from it.

MMA: the first M stands for "meh."

UFC Undisputed is compelling because it carries the atmosphere of UFC events with it. Also, the controls are pretty spot on. Will EA's entry be a generic MMA contest with fictious characters, etc?

EA will not have the UFC roster. Fail.

@LukienAkeela:

There are a lot of real world fighters who aren't signed to the UFC. I imagine they'll scoop up the likeness rights to some of them. Though they will have a harder sell with a lot of faces that the average casual American fan won't recognize.

@Fugue: certainly. I just think Undisputed has a lot going for it because it carries the UFC license. Would a EA MMA game compete without a similiar recognizable license? That's what I'm wondering.

This game will have a good chance with a lot of hardcore MMA fans. They could have Affliction, Strikeforce, Dream and Sengoku fighters, not to mention any other orgs not named "UFC". There are a lot of great fighters not currently employed by Zuffa, not to mention that there are a lot of MMA legends who could be persuaded to jump on.

If the gameplay is awesome, the game will be a success. The EA brand name will also help to make up for the lack of the UFC roster. Hell, most casual MMA fans only know 20 of the fighters from the UFC game, anyway. The other 60 or so are pretty much just "that guy".

EA has Randy Couture on their paycheck that's why he didnt appear at the UFC game. Wouldn't be surprised if he's the cover for thsi game

Have to agree with a few of you. It won't have the faces of UFC, but if the fighting mechanics are an improvement over Undisputed '09 along with more customization options or new modes and stuff... could be good. How well it will sell, we'll see. Competition is good though.

Shit, I'll buy MMA 2010 with Fedor Emelianenko on the cover! Or Randy Couture, I guess.

Non-UFC orgs would probably pay money to be in this game. Think of all the exposure it will give them. It'll be like FIFA, with pretty much every major non-UFC org in the world. EA wouldn't have even announced this game if they hadn't already made sure of that.
