Nintendo really seems to be pulling out all the stops this E3, with a slew of first-party titles being announced. Now we can add Metroid to the growing list of games with a Wii game entitled, Metroid: Other M. Some of us had heard rumors about a new adventure for Samus being announced at the show but the one thing I think nobody expected to hear was that the cherished franchise was being placed in the hands of Team Ninja.
A full 3D adventure, Metroid: Other M promises to go deeper into the story of everybody's favorite power-armored bounty hunter. It looks absolutely stunning visually -- as one might expect with Team Ninja at the helm -- and I can't wait to get my hands on it. I don't traditionally go in for the 3D Metroid titles but I'm going to have to seriously reconsider my stance on that if this winds up being as hot as it looks.
Currently, the title is planned to have a 2010 release.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Does not redeem Nintendo from a press conference overflowing with crap. Not even close.

Wait... was that Adam? Are we getting the story where Adam was her CO?
Interesting.
I'm wondering how the game is going to switch between First-person and third-person perspectives though. The first-person parts look just like the Prime trilogy, but the third-person gameplay looks a lot like Ninja Gaiden or God of War. (Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.)
Anyway, Team Ninja is gonna make it amazing, knowing their track record with Ninja Gaiden and platforming combination! I'm not sure how I feel about Samus speaking, but it's good to know her story.
First, is it just me, or do her breast look smaller than they were in Brawl?
Second, at the 1:40 mark...did Samus just speak?
Based on the 1up interview, all the important people left Team Ninja, so you could say a newbie dev team is going to produce the new Metroid or at least with no real background.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA OMG OMG OMG OMG
Did I just see Mother Brain killing the "Baby" Metroid in there?
ZOMG!
I thought the next Metroid would be DS, but Wii? HOLY SHIT.
Blasphemer!
I think it looks like a huge step up from the Prime games. I just hope they don't screw with the story too much.
Gotta agree with Zarathustra. Team Ninja has never impressed me. Their games are overall flashy with not much substance. I'm not sure they are the guys to tackle a series that is based around claustrophobia, loneliness, and atmosphere like Metroid (as MCChampaign-Millionaire already sort-of said).
I can't say I'm looking forward to this. Everything I loved about the Metroid series seems to be gone in favor of flashiness as Team Ninja knows how to develop. I'd be very surprised (based on this footage) if it turned out to be a good Metroid game (it might be a good game, but I'm not sure if it will be a good Metroid game).
EPIC.
