E3 09: More Splinter Cell Conviction details surface photo

Over the past few weeks Ubisoft has been heavily teasing Splinter Cell Conviction -- a welcome change from the past few years when Ubisoft went dark with the title. A few minutes ago Conviction was shown at Microsoft’s E3 press conference and it was beautiful to see and to finally get some solid details and a release date. (It's due out this fall).

The game’s story revolves around an ancient Sam Fisher and his attempt to find the men who abducted his daughter. And needless to say, he’s not happy about her disappearance. In the small walkthrough given at the conference, we were shown a super produced trailer showing Fisher interrogating a thug in an ugly bathroom. (Interrogating as in smashing his head into stuff and choking him).

Environments in the game were presented as mini sandboxes. Apparently, you’ll have larger areas to run around in and explore before infiltrating a residence. There will also be more options -- in the demo Ubisoft chose to smash down a door and go into a place guns blazing instead of the usual stealth tactics employed in all the previous Splinter Cell titles.

Also, Fisher doesn’t look so emo anymore. He’s a jacked up dude, pissed about his daughter’s disappearance. Thanks, Ubisoft.

The gameplay in this was stunning. The way the objectives just showed up in the environment and how the story and narrative was shown was epic. It was very fast-paced, but still old Splinter Cell-ish. This looks like SC just might be back to the glorious Chaos Theory days.

Possible GOTY, I say.

Didn't she die in the 4th game?

The story reminds me of that movie Taken, which was a badass flick. Put that with improved Splinter Cell gameplay and you might have a winning combination. Count me in!

Are they going with the whole hiding in plain site like they planned to, or will it be in the same vein as the other titles?

Is this going to be the best Splinter Cell game ever? I'm betting my money on it.

If it's anything like Taken with Laim Neeson this game will be awesome. I'm glad to see information about this coming out again, it seems like a year since anything new has come out

Unlike all the other games in the series, I'm actually interested in this one. Probably because it doesn't look like all the other games in the series. I want to see more!

"The game’s story revolves around an ancient Sam Fisher and his attempt to find the men who abducted his daughter."

Actually, this is wrong. The game takes place AFTER SC4 and Sam Fisher is trying to find the man who killed his daughter. You would've seen this if you watched that walkthrough carefully.

I'm also betting on this. How awesome is a espionage game where there is no darkness to hide?(See MGS4)

This sounds like Taken, but of pure win and excellence. Now to get a 360/PS3

Part of me likes the Jack Bauer take on Splinter Cell, but another part me will miss the fact you could pretty much go through an entire Splinter Cell game without killing anyone. It was actually more of a challenge to sneak up and subdue someone than to just open fire. I liked that.
