E3 09: Microsoft says there's more to come photo

Only an idiot would deny that Microsoft rocked E3 yesterday. Regardless of whether you love or hate the company, they provided a barrel load of crowd pleasing announcements and a load of stupid sh*t, which is pretty much what you want from a good conference. Despite blowing a huge load yesterday morning, however, Microsoft's Shane Kim promises that more is on the way.

"We didn't put every Microsoft Game Studios game that's coming out this year on stage, so I don't think you can use that as the only proxy," he explains. "But there's no question that we have tremendous third-party support."

Microsoft went from having no real upcoming games to a fantastic number of hot exclusives, and it'll be interesting to raid the show floor and see what else they have. It'll also be interesting to see what Sony counters with this morning, considering the fact that its biggest announcement was leaked, and more or less disliked by the majority of our readers.

IN DURING GRRAGH JIM ANTISONY BIAS RISING IS MULTIPLATFORM NOT MS EXCLUSIVE BIAS BIAS

But seriously, I really may have to get a 360 (3 years late lol) if everything shown will be working as advertised. That said, it rarely does, but still...

Yeah like how they didn't say they'd be selling full 360 games through the marketplace? Still don't know why they didn't just say that.

Microsoft had an amazing conference. But they had nothing that compares to my excitement of GOD3, but if that game is 2010...ouch for Sony.

Maybe they should have saved the Natal and Milo for the next console. I mean the 360 has gotten a bad rap in the past. Perhaps they should wait a couple more years and put all those technology in the Xbox 720?

While I agree it was good, for myself, the only exclusive they showed that I was interested in is Alan Wake. Yea I know ODST looks good, but I never got on the Halo bandwagon. And the rest of the full body flailing motion stuff isn't for me. It looks fun for kids to spaz out to in front of the TV but thats it, and really they should go outside and do that stuff for real. I agree it looks cool, especially was it called the Milo thing, but I don't want to talk to some kid on my fucking TV. I have to deal with asshole kids sometimes at my job, and the last thing I want is to come home, boot up my 360 and talk to another fucking kid, no matter how adorable he may seem. Plus I've got a 1 year old nephew that I can mess with. The tech does look very interesting though and I'm curious if MS can pull it off.

Don't care about twitter and facebook, if I actually wanted to do those things I'd use my PC, or my phone.

I don't know. They showed me a couple things I'm excited about buying on PS3 (MGSR, MW2 and some other stuff I'll probably pick up later on 360 (C2, SC:C), but nothing really got me pumped. It was a fine conference, but I'm not climbing the walls over any of it. It's a weird feeling, because looking at the games I mentioned, I really should be much more excited than I am.

I thought it was decent but nothing really special, still better than last years E3, though that's damming it with fake praise, anything would be better than last year.

Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo be damned. The one thing I'm really hoping for is Mega Man 10.

Oh, so you've already SEEN Sony's press conference? You know this was their biggest announcement?

Jim makes me a sad panda.

I don't care if Microsoft had announced the next Xbox would be a hovering luminous representation of Major Nelson's penis, with wings above the ballbags and you put disks in the japseye, until they make my live free they're still cunts.

I wasn't really paying attention, can someone tell me how I'm stupid for not thinking they rocked anything? So they had a cross-platform Metal Gear Solid game and a shitty ass looking Alan Wake. Oh, and an EyeToy.

It seems to me like they had a LOT of stuff, but none of it was particularly interesting and exclusive.

Are you serious? What exclusives games that are looking AWESOME? The only EXCLUSIVE game that peaked my interest was Conviction, lots of action, intense action. Crackdown 2 looks awesome, but we have to look past that CGI BS, and wait for some gameplay.

Now Alan Wake, Shadow Complex, Halo ODST (OSTD), HALO Reach (2010), Forza 3 (Best racing game?), none of that raised my interest by 1% on the xbox I own.

Out of the WHOLE press conference, only a few things I liked, Natal, Conviction, Map Packs for MW2 timed exclusive for Xbox and Crackdown2(after it passes the CGI state).

"Only an idiot would deny that Microsoft rocked E3 yesterday", It didn't rock (besides the Beatles part, LOL), it was okay, I know xbox fanboys asking, "That was it?" "Where are the games?"

I watched MS's presser, and I was really impressed. They spent big money, put on a great show, showed us lots of games, some interesting-if-true tech stuff, and kept it jumping.

Watching Ubisoft later in the day really put it in context, they were dreadfully boring, and made MS look electric in comparrison.

Yea, the only thing I enjoyed from MS conference was ALan Wake and Conviction. Having game announcements are cool but there was no gameplay footage! Announcing MGS Rising, Crackdown2 and L4d2 is cool but showing FMV trailers is not. Especially FMV trailers that don't say anything about the actual gameplay!

Nintendo's conference was kinda boring but it pumped out several mario games and ended with team ninja's Metroid and that was awesome! Nintendo sure knows how to hold a secret. Now I'm hoping Sony still has a secret or 2 up its sleeves.

If you started your criticism of Microsoft's Conference with some sneering variation of "The only thing I saw that impressed me" then you probably don't understand the point of discussing the relative success and value of the conferences or E3.

Nintendo just promised more of the same and at least three big first party titles for the Wii. Their awkward moment "it's one of those biofeedback things from the airport/hospital" was not nearly as ridiculous as Ravi Drums and the ten mintues of coporate people spazzing out to horrific noise in last years Wii music. They have Wii motion plus promo videos that resemble Nike ads. They did alright. If you want a new Mario Galaxy a new Super Mario with four player simultaneous couch coop, and a new Metroid with team Ninja instead of Retro at the helm then you are probably a happy little duck right now. They did good. They should improvement from last year.

MS similarly brought out two scoops of favorite, mentioned that Epic still loves them enough to hand them an XBLA game, announced MGS:Get!, showed us a technoabomination, and what looks like the next step in fitness/immersion games witha nice tagline of "you are the controller. They got what's left of the Beatles, Steven Spielberg, fan favorite Alicia Day, Facebook, Twitter, and Kojima out on stage. They showed Alan Wake gameplay. The showed a major damned uopgrade in Forza. There was no Duffy, or lizard movie wackiness. They covered their bases and improved massively on last year.

Now we get to see what Sony brings to this tango.

This has been an AWESOME E3 and the damned thing JUST got started!

Damn dude, some of you guys expect WAY too much out of E3. I got just what I was hoping for: A MGS game on the 360. Not only was it a totally new game, but I also got to see Conviction in action, Alan Wake, trailers for L4D 2 (YES!), and new stuff like Shadow Complex. Project Natal is cool, but I doubt I'm going to use it. Lords of Shadow is also coming to 360, not to mention that the MGS franchise is now one that exists on both Sony and Microsoft's consoles. I don't know about you guys, but I really liked MS conference and thought it was a huge improvement over last year. The Halo stuff actually looked pretty good (That Halo: Reach trailer, Bungie are masters of the tease). I'm not a huge racing games guy (Except for Burnout), but Forza 3 looked good, and not to mention the Crackdown 2 trailer. All this and I haven't mentioned that we've finally seen APB, which is due out next year.

Think about it this way: There were very few games to look forward to this year, now there are a few genuinely awesome looking games that are coming out. Just think about how MS went from nothing to something in 2009 in just one conference. If you put it like that, you'll realize that they had a pretty good conference.

I now have 19 games on the 360 that I want very much going into this Holiday season. Before E3 I had 3.
