In one of the more pleasant surprises of the Nintendo press conference, Mario Galaxy 2 was announced. The trailer they showed looked a whole lot like the first Mario Galaxy, with the added bonus of Yoshi. If that isn't enough to sell you (I mean, come on, it's f'in Yoshi!), there's also this sweet looking drill thing that had Mario burrowing straight through the planets to drill people in the face.
Mario Galaxy is one of my favorite Wii games, so the annoucement of a second one makes me pretty happy. I'm still waiting for Reggie to make his BIG annoucement (and I'm going to cry if he doesn't), but this is helping me feel less sad about the whole thing.
Jonathan Ross is an Associate Editor in Los Angeles who is obsessed with capybaras. Like, seriously, obsessed. If he's not playing Team Fortress 2 or getting into arguments about why PC gaming is superior, he's either off having a fancy dinner with lots of expensive wine, or sitting on the Destructoid IRC complaining that's he's not off having a fancy dinner.
Likes: Chrono Trigger, Street Fighter, Steam, everything Blizzard and Valve have ever made, playing Angry Birds on the toilet.
Meet the rest of the team

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
God, I am SO excited for this game. But WTF happened with not showing Pikmin 3? That's what I wanted the most.
I wanna know how they are planning to top that amazing soundtrack from the first one.
LMFAO!
@TheJesusNinja
I many times do people have to say this. IT'S NOT EVEN OVER!
This almost feels like an old piece of steak that's been thrown out to a pack of hungry street dogs.
But we get more Mario Galaxy, so I won't complain.
Unsurprising. But Very nice. :)
This is excellent news.
While I would be happy with essentially new levels (which I call an Expansion Pack sequel) I hope that the Galaxy team decides to throw us a wild card and make a game none of us were expecting.
Personally, I'd like a little bit of the open-endedness of the worlds like in the Banjo-Kazooie games. The original Galaxy was even supposed to be like that (check out the early demo footage from E3 06). I'd also like the suits to be a bit more important than they were in Galaxy (it did a great job but they were rarely used for bosses which I saw as a mixed opportunity).
Finally, make the extra stars balls to the wall awesome. We know that for the main game they want it to be beatable by most people so they should at least make the extra stars (you know, Pink Lumas and Purple Comets) completely insane.
Other than that, OMG YOSHI!!
MARIO'S DRILL WILL PIERCE THE HEAVENS!
