Earlier today, we were shown the first gameplay footage of Zipperfly Interactive's MMOFPS MAG during Sony's press conference. Hours later, I am still trying to calm myself down from my initial shocked state.
A crew of eight was brought on stage to demo some of the basic objectives players will be asked to accomplish, show how squad leaders can give commands to their troops, and give an overview on how absurdly large the maps will be in MAG.
Much to the audience's enjoyment, it was also revealed that the game will be playable on the E3 show floor with full 256 player support. It goes without saying, but yes, we'll be giving you more in-depth coverage soon.
Jordan Devore is Destructoid's PC gaming manager and founding ginger editor. He is said to be easy to love but difficult to know. When Samit inquired about his curious bio photo Jordan simply replied: "bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Meet the rest of the team
This looks amazing! This is truly the next generation of gaming right here. Why do I have a feeling that it will never work that good in RL? I'm already picturing my team ignoring orders and just running helter skelter all over the map doing what they feel like.
It's hard enough to find a good team for a 4 on 4 match, how hard will it be to find a good army?
I think I am going to have to get a PS3. I hope it has split screen because I can see it as a great game to have people over and play with the people in your house.
Agreed. As complex as the game is, I imagine you are going to need to play with friends to get the best possible experience. Nothing wrong with that, though.
I don't know. They didn't show anything too spectacular. Pretty boilerplate gameplay. As for the 256 players, that remains to be seen obviously. It could just be that I own a 360 instead.
I orgasmed at least 2wice in this video. I have been following this game since they announced it and it's getting better and better. Zipper is one hell of a developer and I credit them with bringing shooter's online for the console. Halo did it for the Xbox but that was after Socom had been out, man I miss me some Socom, not that new trash.
Yeah I guess we won't have the same problem as with KZ2 when we originally made the Dtoid clan before splitting it into two. Though I do really enjoy the inter-toid competition....
@Caffeine Knight: That's the cool thing about it though, that they can. If they want bonus points though they have to go after your objective and they can go after it the way they want. So even though there is a loose command structure it retains the freedom of choice.
@Chronic: 256 players isn't massive enough for you? Nowhere does it say that MMOs have to be persistent worlds. I don't think you could argue that this isn't "multiplayer" or "online," so I guess there just needs an arbitrary amount of players before it becomes "massive"?
MAG is a pseudo-persistent world. The three factions are always at war regardless of whether you're logged in or not. Every match fought, by ANYONE contributes to the same overarching goals. And yes, of course Zipper will be hosting permanent servers.
I can't see myself playing a game with less that 257 players- i am going to have to pass on this one...
actually it looks awesome and I can't wait for it
Even as a PS3 owner, this had the visual quality of Quake Wars with more players...yawn. Having essentially played this years ago when Sony released Planetside it's just not as impressive 6 years later.
Now instead of dealing with 15 total console a-holes in COD4 or WaW, I need to deal with 255 other a-holes. I wonder if they'll have bots to fill the other 255 roles in the event of a server not being full.
I don't know, if you and your team are rewarded a great deal for completing an objective, they may be more motivated to complete said objective. That and objective-based gameplay is a staple of single-player, maybe it will work in multi-player and be compelling enough that people will want to follow through with objectives.

Isn't it "Zipper Interactive"??
Dtoid Community Army?
Dtoid Community Army?"
ASSEMBLE!!
At first, it seemed like there was a little too much going on, but its looking promising.
And certified retards giving commands.
... if a player disobeys an order and doesn't follow his squad, he will have to handle an entire opposing squad\army by himself.
I think this looks hot.
