As you already know, Left 4 Dead 2 was announced earlier today. Along with the announcement came the first look at the game which reveals that Left 4 Dead 2 takes place in New Orleans. A new group of survivors are taking on the infected horde and this time they'll be able to use melee weapons.
There's plenty of new stuff in L4D 2 and you can check out more info on the game over on the announcement post. All in all, Left 4 Dead 2 is looking pretty hot!
Be sure to check out PC Gamer and Official Xbox Magazine as they'll have cover stories on Left 4 Dead 2 this month.
[Update: MaximumPC has more info. Some highlights include new survivors names are Nick, Ellis, Rochelle and Coach. Mission will happen in the daylight, Witch acts differently in daytime, stronger narrative, new boss infected called The Charger, one new game mode and more.]
Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

Meet the rest of the team
Not too keen on this. I'd much more preferred if Valve supported L4D with new campaign DLC, rather than bring out a complete new sequel. The new characters also seem kinda iffy.
That trailer got me pretty mad. $50-60 for new weapons and a few levels? New characters? w/e, the girl is ugly. New AI Director features? still nothing special.
But hey, it's during the DAY!!
i thought they would have had a lot more DLC for the original. im kinda pissed, i now am going to pay another 60 dollars for something thats gonna be really short just like the last one. i would rather have more maps for the first one.
It looks neat but I really hate how Valve is taking a dramatic shift towards sequel whoring. They're going to have to give me a ton of new content for me to pick this up for top dollar.
Is that the Tank's little brother? Also, it looks like you can blow it's arm off. AWESOME. Director 2.0 will be interesting if it can make many dynamic changes in the paths and shit.
The characters look, meh. I already think that the pistol whip from the first game was already too powerful, I mean you can knock back a whole bunch of zombies with one shove! Also you can reload while pistol whipping the zombies.
This is more than just overpriced DLC, it's a full sequel. There have been enough new developments in the whole deal to qualify the assumed cost. At least looking from the RPS preview, it's definitely more than a glorified map pack.
I've seen 1 minute of pre-rendered footage and read a few pieces of early information.
This information is certainly enough to justify me never ever buying another valve game ever again, because it's going to be shit and everything they make is now justifiably proven to be shit. Even though it's in the future, it's just future shit. Like an undigested meal.
Normally, I would scoff at this, as this appears to be a studio pushing what would pass for a paid expansion pack in most circle as what will probably be a full $50-60 product. In my opinion, L4D, while I loved it, was under supported by Valve's normal standard. TF2 is still Valve receiving maps and content, despite being several months older. L4D saw only the addition of Survival mode and the untimely release of versus play in the other 2 campaign maps, and nothing else to speak of.
However, this is Valve. Orange Box, the greatest deal in gaming, built enough good will with me. If it has more than 4 maps at launch, I'll gladly buy it. Less than that? It'll have to be very top shelf content to merit buying at full price. I suppose only time will tell.
L4D, originally, was a 50 dollar HL2 mod. It was a great mod, but still only worth the $20 I eventually got it for. I'll say the same for L4D2, which will be a $50 add-on. It'll be worth it when it's $20-$30.
I actually agree that I would have rather they supported the first game more. I mean, they've already shown they can support a game completely with TF2, why no do it with L4D?
Wow. I will be the first to admit that I think it is a bit too soon for a new L4D game. That being said, I plan on continuing to play L4D for some time and if people think it is premature to release a new L4D, then just continue to play L4D and get your moneys worth out of that.
But I think the amount of hate is not really justified. Valve hasn't even released a price for the game, as far as I can tell. And even if it ends up being $50-$60, Valve has done good things in the past, like releasing free DLC. So I think people need to calm down and put things in perspective.
I'm putting on my frowny face >:C
This L4D and it's character lacks all damn personallity that the previous one had.
It has become way to cocky... almost just like Valve themselves.
It feels way to early for a sequel for a game that I enjoyed so much, and to announce it as a totaly new stand-alone makes it only worse.
I'll only buy it if they'll announce that they won't make any more L4D sequels and wil support this one like DLC (they probely want to even it out with other titles, like TF2).
As shady as it is of them to be announcing this already, I really do want it. This new cast doesn't strike me as being as iconic as the first crew, but they'll grow on me.
I was so pissed about this earlier but dammit! Those bastards over at Valve know exactly how to tickle an individual like me! Ugh, so excited for this now. I still think the characters look too boring. I just want my Zoey back :(

wtf Valve.
Great.
I bet theres gonna be an Uncle Phil sound pack mod soon after it comes out. I hope so too!
DO WANT. Even though it's too soon.
Sign of Valve selling out? Here's hoping not.
except Uncle Phil...maybe just uncle Phil. Dibs on Uncle Phil if I ever decide to get this game.
The lines about praying and running out of bullets, SOOOOOO AWESOME.
That new special infected looks like a tank wearing overalls with a midget arm.
But, by GOD, I better be able to play as Bill. Don't you DARE take my Bill from me Valve, I swear, I will keel you.
"Pills here!"

I do wonder how there will be a stronger narrative when the focus is on fast-paced coop action.
~faints~
Is there ever a Valve post you don't come into and completely troll up?
You're such a hypocrite.
Cajun zombies gunna git it.
Valve, I got faith, but I got doubts. Please make this worth the price of a new game.
