E3 09: Kojima bringing Metal Gear to 360 (Update) photo

Well, here we go: Kojima's new project is Metal Gear Solid: Rising, which will featuring Raiden as the main character. With the tagline of "Lightning Bolt Action," we now have the start of the Metal Gear franchise on the Xbox 360. That's all the word Kojima had to say as he came onto the stage to speak to the Microsoft panel crowd.

So, no, it's not Metal Gear Solid 4 on the Xbox 360.

El Segundo, Calif. - June 1, 2009 - Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc., announced today that Metal Gear Solid: Rising is currently in development for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft - the first Metal Gear Solid game to launch on the Xbox 360®. Raiden, one of the most popular characters in the Metal Gear Solid universe, will star in the all-new title from Hideo Kojima. Raiden first debuted in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system as a playable character and appeared as a non-playable cyborg in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.

"The Metal Gear Solid series is one of the most highly acclaimed video game franchises of all time," said Anthony Crouts, Vice President of Marketing for Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. "With Metal Gear Solid: Rising, the Xbox 360 community will finally get a chance to enjoy the action and excitement that this popular franchise is known to offer."

So basically the gameplay consists of Raiden barfing glue and lighting randomly hitting enemies completely unexplained?

Why couldn't be a game that starts at the end of MGS2 and goes into 4? That's far more interesting. MGS2 Raiden was at least reasonable and not too over the top.

I'll still get it of course maybe it will also be for PS3? Who knows.

This game will be totally different than MGS 1-4. And not in a good way. I'm thinking action game a la Devil May Cry.

And tomorrow we'll see MGS5 for PS3 starring Big Boss.

I am myself a Sony fanboy, and I don't care if Kojima explores different territories. But what really bothers me with this is that the 360 fanboys will never shut up now...

I only hope Kojima doesn't forget about the PS3 users!

Interesting, although this means we are going to have to listen to the fanboys bicker about this until we get more details. I couldn't care whether it is exclusive or not to be honest, and Kojima makes really high quality games so it should be good.

Lightning Bolt Action!? WTF!!??? HA HA HA!!! I was joking with my friend yesterday, saying that MGS4 will be ported to 360, with all the graphics retained. Then I immediately said that they would do this by making the entire game FMV, and make the gameplay into a rail shooter like Area 51 and Target: Terror. But wow... Lightning Bolt Action? If this is a rail shooter, then I will shit myself! HA HA HA!!!

Oh yeah! I'm ready to fangurl on some Raiden, you can believe it! Thank you Kojima for not giving up on the character long ago, despite western male criticism! And all around love for the 360 announcements today <3

And to all the haters out there... I don't give a shit if it's exclusive or not. I do my best to own every system because I actually care about having a complete gaming experience. Why in the world would I support only one company when they all have good games? If I stuck with only my faves it would be PS2 and Dynasty Warriors for life. But I love my 360, and I want a PS3, and I own a Wii. If the world were perfect everything would either be completely exclusive or all inclusive, but it's not, so why waste time and energy on hate?

Anyways... cool We'll finally get a MGS game featuring a Raiden I can actually stand. I wonder if the gameplay will be like the Cyborg Ninja missions in the MGS virtual reality missions, or if it will be more of a Devil May Cry clone.

Hmm...I'd like to hear more about the game itself before I get excited.

Also, I'm going to call it now: it will be announced as relatively low priced DLC for MGS4 during the Sony conference, and will not have a retail version for the PS3.

It's like the whine-fest over FFXIII all over again, with the same imbeciles claiming that FFXIII:VS is the 'real' game to look forward to now saying that MGS:R must be crap. Get a life people.

What, as in MGS1, 3, and 4 were exclusives? Is that all that matters to you? If so, you should probably take 1 off the list. And read up on a certain game called Twin Snakes.

So, if you were sad enough to think in terms of "We" as some borg type collective of owners of Sony consoles, then its highly probable you should put losing your virginity as a higher priority.

I knew this was all metal gear related, everyone who said this was BOKTAI or some ZOE shit (Shame on you). The evidence was there. Although I am a non biased gamer and have all 3 next gen consoles I am sort of sadened to see Kojima's love child go to Microsoft, PS3 has not had many exclusives and alot of what we thought were exclusives turned out to be untrue (FFXIII, GTA). I know these developers are only thinking of profit and money, and since the xbox is cheaper and owns a huge portion of the market, of course they are going to give in. It's all mmoney to them. At least its a new story of the Metal Gear universe and not a shitty port. I hope whatever they decide to do with this does the brand justice and doesn't f*@k the whole series up.

From what I gathered it'll be in the "MGS" universe but wopn't be a stealth title like MGS. Like comments above, I'm guessing it'll be a Devil May Cry/Ninja Gaiden clone with Raiden in the lead role, which if that is the case, meh.
