E3 09: James Cameron's Avatar game will try not to suck photo
#E3

As I'm typing this, James Cameron is still talking about his film, Avatar. On the one hand, this is exhilirating -- it's the first real information we've heard about his supposedly epic flick in the four years he's been developing (he described the process of watching the film as being akin to dreaming with your eyes open).

On the other hand, half the stuff he's been talking about has nothing to do with the game.

What we do know about the game, however, is that it is not a simple retelling of the film's story, but rather a parallel story in the same universe, developed at the same time as the film by UbiSoft Montreal. The game will come out before the film and be utterly free of spoilers where the film is concerned. Cameron acknowledged that many licensed games "suck," before expressing his intent that his licensed game won't -- it will be the perfect companion to the film, in Cameron's eyes, rather than just being the "redheaded step child" of an obviously-superior film.

You may be familiar with this as a similar strategy utilized by every single creative person behind the creation of their particular licensed game in the entire history of licensed games.

There will be a booth demo available somewhere at E3, and we'll try our darndest to check it out. Cameron himself said he felt fear and excitement while playing the demo.

Ubisoft's E3 conference this year is incredibly bad and a total trainwreck. It is barely about video games.

I have the feeling it will suck and that's why they didn't even bother showing.

Maybe we can get a licensed game on the same or better level of Peter Jackson's King Kong.
I meant , that game was amazing!the last lv. was kind of a mess though. But it's the best movie tie-in game for me.

Oh god that man talked forever and didn't say anything. It's like listening to a city counsel meeting. I liked the part where he dropped a massive announcement for his game out of nowhere: it will be rendered in 3D. Mind=blown.

Cameron's speech was so boring, I was disappointed. I am normally a big fan of his, but when he rambles on about innovation and technology and giant blue native American aliens with no visual aids, it just comes across as sleep inducing jargon. Also, he pretty much confirmed my fears that Avatar will be Dances with Wolves on an alien planet.

I hate it when a trailer shows you too much of a movie- I hate it even more when a nonexistent trailer shows you nothing about the movie

Hey, the game is being developed by Ubisoft not James. So it's might be in good hands, might.
