E3 09: Huxley has gone the free-to-play route photo

To this day, I still have a hard time believing Huxley: The Dystopia is an actual videogame, and not just smoke and mirrors. But apparently it's playable at E3 right now, so who knows. Since the last time we heard about the game, it's undergone a few significant changes, and no, I'm not referring to the silly subtitle.

Namely, Huxley has dropped support for cross-platform play, which doesn't seem like a big deal at all, but I could see how it could be for some people. More importantly, though, is how the game will now be launching as a free-to-play title with paid microtransaction support. Lastly, there's a beta going on for Huxley, and you can get in by going here.

Yippee-kai-yay, Mr. Falcon!

How sad, but I expected it. Can I expect players spending vast amounts of money on uber items and steamrolling over nonpayers? I'll still play it when it comes out. But I won't expect anything great.

I find it ironic that you have to pay for a File Planet subscription to participate in a beta for a free-to-play MMOG. I think it's irony. Either that or it's fucking retarded.

My expectations have been greatly lowered, only saving grace is it is free-to-play now.

Here's my tutorial on how to not get people to sign up for your beta.

Step 1. Charge for it.

That ends today's lesson.

yeah, so, I signed up for a garbage account expecting to be able to play the beta, but no, I keep getting redirected to a page listing premium pay accounts.

wtf is that?

@ Tom: Yeah it has to be a paid fileplanet account, not the free one. Why anyone even needs a fileplanet account these days with so many websites around, for nothing more than free demos, free betas, or free content is beyond me.

A long time ago I had very high hopes for this game.

System Requirements
22Gb Free space in HD

really? Crysis only takes Half that, Oblivion takes only 4.6 gigs.

Also I actually would have tried it despite the 22 gig file size, the ridiculous Lamespy premium members only BS stopped me real quick.

So it's basically now just a generic FPS but in MMO form? Sucks to hear about that. Guess I'll have to pass for now.

Looks like Unreal Tournament with XP and persistent stats. In other words, you will die a lot from people who play the game all day.
