E3 09: Hands on with LittleBigPlanet PSP photo

LittleBigPlanet is not as big as it used to be now that it's on the PSP, but it sure looks great. In fact, you'd be surprised at how well the game translates to portable form. Or at least I was.

In the E3 demo we were presented with, Sackboy and his surroundings look much like they do on the PS3 version of the game. He still moves in and out of multiple planes by pressing up a or down on the analog stick, and he still jumps and grabs onto things to push or pull them. In fact, there's nothing new here in the way of game play at all. If you liked Little Big Planet, you're probably going to like this. 

We played a pre-made E3 demo that looked great on the portable device The level, an Austrlian outback-themed affair, had Sackboy hitting switches, pulling platforms, and rolling on vehicles, just like he does in the PS3 version. The game play was also a spot-on copy of the PS3 version, though you'll have to make do with the analog nub on the PSP. We tried it on the PSP Go and didn't have any issues, though.

Of course, there will be level creating, sharing and PS3 connectivity in the final version, though we didn't get a chance to check out any of these features. We still don't have a release date for the Little Big Planet PSP yet, but it seems like they have a pretty good little platformer that's ready to go. We'll look forward to a closer look at the connectivity and level design features in the future.

Looking forward to it! On the flipside, that's one tallymark less on the Cool Stuff I Need to Get When I Get a PS3 List, unless the game somehow manages to suffer horribly for want of that third plain.

@ KoKoO: Agreed. The controls and the imprecise changing of planes turned me off to the PS3 version.
