E3 09: Halo Reach officially announced photo

Microsoft and Bungie announced the next Halo game right after showing Halo ODST. The next game is called Halo Reach, which we heard was in the works last week. We only saw a quick little teaser showing the planet Reach blowing up.

If you didn't read the first book in the Halo novel series, the Planet Reach is a human military planet where the SPARTAN II's were trained. The Covenant eventually find the planet, and like the rest of the human colonies, destroy the planet. The events of the original Halo actually take place moments after the the planet Reach is attacked.

Halo Reach will be out Fall 2010 and Halo ODST is going to include a multiplayer invitation for Halo Reach. Sounds like Halo Reach will be a whole new expereince.

Check out our live blog for more on the Microsoft E3 09 press conference going on right now.

The original spartans had no shields or anything they also tended to use enemy equipment, for example they could equip Jackal shields.

Could this be the RSV-ish Halo game? I hope so.

Wonder what genre it'll take, though I wouldn't say no to yet another Halo FPS.

I'd like to know what it actually is.

But here is the thing...

What the fuck was the point of Bungie leaving Microsoft almost two years ago again?

Seriously... Remember when they said they were becoming independent to work on new IPs and shit? And what have they done since leaving Microsoft? Halo... and more Halo.

I knew they were pretty much going to remain exclusive to Microsoft sort of the way Insomniac is to Sony, but jesus christ, I'm tired of Halo. Bungie needs to do something new.

It sounds like whatever secret project Bungie has that is actually original is going to go the way of Phoenix and end up scrapped amidst MOAR HALOZ!

Bungie will do other things eventually, but I guess they still have stories within the Halo-verse that they still want to tell. In the case of Reach, maybe they want to show more of what the book told, and I can dig that. Without the hype of the original series to live up too, these games can possibly be better, remember that.

I kind of wish Bungie would move on. But hey, I'll finally get to have a video game version of the best installment of the Haloverse!

Also, I'm kind of digging the slightly more sans serif Halo font.

Hey, as long as Bungie is rolling in the dough, and the games are good, who cares? But I am a little concerned about the game. In Reach you don't have one sole survivor Spartan, you have a whole entire army of them. If one Spartan can defeat an entire army of Covenant soldiers. Can you imagine what an entire army of Spartans can do?

wow, I'm impressed - There isn't the usual Gaylo comment..yet. Halo is a solid franchise and great production and a huge (if sometimes annoying) gaming population so that you can almost always find a game.

I relived to see that Bungie will keep looking out for their baby. I thought someone else lacking Bungie's attention to detail would take over. I'm glad to see they're still involved.

Although I hope they expand upon and evolve their creation. I know they can do it. its just hard to move out of your comfort zone when millions of fans have certain expectations.

Firefight sounds like Horde. I think I'll be spending a lot of time in that mode if its what I'm thinking.
