E3 09: God of War III's visuals will 'improve dramatically' photo

"Everything you see here will improve dramatically in the final game. We're always improving."

That's what God of War III producer Stig Asmussen told us today of the game, during a behind-closed-doors demo. It's hard to believe -- the demo played at Sony's E3 press conference and free to play on the floor looks more than incredible. It's not an understatement to come out and say that it may be one of the best-looking third-person action games ever, if not the best-looking game on the PlayStation 3.

But comparing it to the demo of the same section of gameplay we saw earlier in the year, he's definitely not just blowing smoke. The game had already improved dramatically, with some of the most obvious examples the game's lighting. But Asmussen points out the new blood effects, with splatters covering Krato, become covered in blood as he tears down enemies. Or another little touch just put in for the E3 demo, a group of rats scattering into darkness as Kratos shines the light from the eyes of the severed head of Helios upon them.

With my mind already blown by what I'm seeing, I can't imagine where my jaw will land when it ships next March. We hope to get some hands on time with God of War III (about 20 minutes worth of gameplay) here at E3.

They have plenty of time to tighten up the graphics on level 3.

Wait, the Stig is producing this game?

But anyway, I would honestly be alright with the game shipping with those graphics. Judging by the pic, without an overhaul I'm guessing all they are going to do is modify the lighting a bit and a couple of textures, cause it looks great as it is.

Oh joy, I can't wait to see more realistic blood and gore, with the occasional realistic titties.

Am I the only one who thinks they don't understand lighting in this series?

Benzido: Probably. The GOW series has great lighting and scene composition. I never thought once about not being able to see something.

LOL @ brainderailment. I see whatcha did, there.

I am very much looking forward to this game--as I have been for months and will for an additional 3 months (EB games said December 2009 earlier this year).

I have only one wish for this game. I want Herakles (Hercules to the Romans) to be in it and I want him to be utterly invincible. I want him to tell you what a good job you're doing when you hit him, and then throw you into a fcuking wall. I want the fight to end with you knocking him down, and his then getting up, dusting himself off and thanking you for the fun before throwing you into the next level map.

Seriously. The guy wrestled death to get a servant's soul back. Let him have his due.
