I have seen the next Legend of Zelda game. Well, actually, I've seen art from a new Legend of Zelda game... and I'm not talking about Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks for the Nintendo DS. I'm talking about the next Legend of Zelda currently in development for the Wii.
"To be honest with you," Miyamoto told a small theater full of media during a Q&A today, "I really wanted to announce a Zelda game for the Wii [this E3]."
Obviously, they didn't. But he did share some of the first details on the game with us. Hit the jump for more.
But he did bring a single piece of concept art for the game, and no... they won't let us show it to you. The single image showed an adult-looking Link, his back turned, looking over his shoulder. In front of him was an unfamiliar sad-looking female wearing a robe. According to Miyamoto, what we saw directly tied into the game's story and gameplay... but the tease would say no more.
He did mention that Wii Motion Plus would indeedbe compatible with the next Legend of Zelda on the Wii; it may even be only playable with the Wii Motion Plus. This depends, he said half-jokingly, on the strength of Wii Motion Plus sales.
Nintendo will have a while to push some babies off the shelf. We're not going to be seeing the new Zelda Wii title for quite some time; Miyamoto says they'll probably be bringing it to the next E3.
Even though this is basically no information at all, it gives me comfort to know that it exists.
Anyways, I'm thinking holiday 2011 for this zelda game.
Yep, just checked pictures from show and it is. How freaky is that.
Nintendo doesn't really attend TGS on the regular.
geiv windwaker /minish cap look.
The quality and scale of the story is what I'm most concerned about. This has been the biggest factor in why I've disliked TP, but loved OoT and WW.
Although, if that isn't the case, I'll be happy anyway, because it's Zelda, and Zelda is always awesome.
I don't care how it looks honestly, just make it less boring and less shitty, Twilight princess just dragged on and on and on, it was terrible, the 4 hour tutorial didn't help either.
AND NO FUCKING PARTNER CHARACTER, Navi was annoying and Midna was just aggravating.
Nintendo shows Zelda Wii at E3 2010.
Release will be set for late 2011. That's right, we have to wait 2.5 years from now, just like when mature Zelda for GameCube (Twilight Princess) was first revealed in EPIC form at E3 2004.
Zelda Wii will indeed REQUIRE Motion Plus, it'll be key to the sword & shield fighting/defending gameplay, puzzle solving, and perhaps gesture-based magic, too.
Also, it'll run in standard 480p on Wii, but be 720p (or 1080p) native HD compatible with Wii HD, coming in 2011 or 2012. So while Motion Plus will be required to play the new Zelda, Wii HD will not, as Wii HD will only enhance the visuals of the new Wii Zelda.
The Wii HD part is only 20% certain, the Motion Plus part is 99% certain.
My biggest worry with this Zelda is that I want it to be a total jump from the current standing formula. Full on steam punk/bits of sci-fi, Project Deluge style storyline, just something that will really surprise Zelda fans and throw everyone off. That's all I want.
Fuck.
F*ck
while the wait is absolutely killing me, there is nothing I hate quite as much as a rushed product (once again, Twilight Princess.) and with New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario and Luigi RPG 3, Metroid: Other M all on the way, I can wait. just show us something good at next year's E3 from this game, Nintendo!
My only gripe with Twilight Princess was the Motion Controls. Shit, I wish they put the next Zelda on Gamecube as well, directly as an option to use a controller, as my Mom has my Wii. :p
The motion control shit is gimmicky as sin. After playing TP on Wii, I completely decided that any 'Serious' (IE Main IP) Nintendo game should have MANDATORY standard controller support.
I'm surprised at how many people here disliked it, actually. When it came out, all I'd read is everyone talking about how incredible it was, how it was the best Zelda ever. I was just like, "what? :\"
But yeah, the Metroid announcement was bigger than a Zelda announcement could've been.
