Wait let me get this right... They announced FFXIV before FFXIII is even out?

I was almost excited until I saw it was called Final Fantasy XIV Online.

If by whore you mean work horse, then yes. Any studio would kill to have a series as successful as the Final Fantasy series, so I don't see why people are surprised that Final Fantasy receives so much attention from Square. Especially since, you know, there are millions of loyalists across the globe who have devoutly stuck with Square for decades now. And rightfully so, Square doesn't make failure games, they tend to do mediocre at worst. Square continues to innovate and try new things, and more often than not they work. They have a really talented design on board. I can't think of any other series that is so long standing and successful, *especially from a third party developer.*

And yeah, announcing sequels to entertainment that hasn't been released yet is not uncommon. Star Trek "reboot" anyone?

Did I miss the memo that says we need to immediately hate anything that goes beyond a threequel?

some kind of online features? its the mmo, the next FF11.

I don't think it'll be an MMORPG like FF11, but a Final Fantasy who's story revolves around Online capabilities and with a conclusion.

What the fuck. Final Fantasy 13 hasn't come out yet, and now they're announcing Final Fantasy 14?!

This is how shitty the Final Fantasy franchise is. They're announcing 14 a year and a half before 13 comes out, and we still only have about five minutes worth of gameplay from 13.

I hope to god they don't start charging fees for this....

Noticed how they showed FF14 and then, atfter a few seconds, the online underneath the name?

Like others said, this will have online features, like a MMO. But I also think it will have a story mode.

I hate MMOs. Can't we just have a normal Final Fantasy set in medevil times?

Why does every game have to appeal to teh same god damned market, cant you let us online players have our fun without bitching an moaning about it? Final Fantasy XIII will be out for all of us who love rpgs in 2010, but those of us who want to pay monthly and have a different expeience with our friends, ALSO in 2010 to play online, who cares? MMO's are popular people, FFXI is still rocking and rolling, and I for one can't wait to play an HD sequel.
