E3 09: Every NPC talks in Star Wars: The Old Republic photo

Chew on this for a second:  every non-playable character in BioWare’s upcoming PC MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic talks. Every single digital denizen BioWare has created to populate the game’s universe will have something to say. Useful dialogue or not, this is an impressive feat -- an industry first, as we were told during Electronic Arts’ E3 press conference this afternoon.

We’re not exactly sure how big the BioWare’s version of George Lucas’ galaxy is, but we’re guessing it’s not going to be small. The expansiveness is one of the big draws for fans.

Couple this with the suggestion that fetch quests (“Go here, get 20 of this”) won’t be included in the game and you’ve got yourself an MMO to look forward to.

Well it's going to be annoying hearing the same person voice 20 NPCs.

That's gonna be a lot of recycled voice acting, but still a nice addition.

great... but did they figure out how to make a lightsaber smaller than a can of pringles?

It'll be a handful of recycled dialogue

SOE was the first to attempt this feat with EQ2 but failed in the end. "All NPCs" resulted in only had a handful per zone with a voice.

I truly hope Bioware succeeds at this milestone.

Even though this will probably mean a bunch of recycled voices and recycled lines its still quite an accomplishment. Can't wait for this game.

Now this will be the first MMO I will play. That is all I want from MMO developers is to put voices to the stupid quests they give me but the characters will make it sound like the greatest mission of my characters life.

Is this really necessary? I'm not illiterate, and I'd much rather read a somewhat detailed quest description/introduction/anything than a streamlined greeting hundreds of times from the same group of voice actors.

Realistically, I imagine this means there will just be unique short greeting voice-clips for each NPC. That's still excessive, and sounds like it'll take up far more harddrive space than it's worth.

Well, they can always add a floating companion droid which repeatedly says "Hey! Hey! Dude, come on! Hey! Hey! Listen! Hey! Hey!". That would go well with the garbage can-sized lightsaber handle.

Interesting...I haven't played an MMO in a while now, gave up the WOW crack a while ago, and this sounds like something I'd want to play being a Star Wars fan too.

Every NPC said something in KOTOR too, kinda. And no fetch quests? sounds like liez.

Also , I can't wait for this game.

Wait, didn't every NPC in Oblivion talk, or is that just my imagination. Even so, I'm sure most of them did, and it was the same 10 actors trying different voices on, which was ok. But after a while, it broke the illusion. Like, hey, this blacksmith is voiced by the same guy that was that orc I just killed, which is great... he's my favorite voice actor in Oblivion!

15% of them say "I am Error" but that's still pretty impressive.
