Quantcast

While I have to be in the right mood to play Echochrome, I absolutely loved everything about the game's simple look and elegant approach when it was finally released last year (not to mention the soundtrack is gorgeous and one of my favorites of its kind). Apparently the game did well enough to warrant a sequel, which is coming to PSN and PSP this fall, called Echochrono.

The game's name is a working title, so it may not be called that by the time it's finally released, but one look at it and you can already tell there are some new things to discover. Color has been added, for instance, and there's a really cool new gameplay spin: you cannot complete the puzzles on your own, so you will need to work with the ghosts of your previous attempts in order to make it through the game. Cool, right?

Echochrono will feature 30 different puzzle types and 45 total levels, with more to come in the future as downloadable content. I have to say I am looking forward to this one (not to mention a new soundtrack!). Interested, or no?

Reminds me of the Mario Vs. Donkey Kong games.

Not a very good headline, as Echochrome has been portable since day one.

Ehh, looks interesting enough, but I think I'll stick with regular ol' Echochrome.

The optical illusion thing was the whole point of Echochrome... So they threw it out the window instead of expanding upon it? Also I can't help but get this braid time mechanic ripoff feeling. Even if it's not exactly the same. :/

I was definitely reminded a bit of Braid or P.B. Winterbottom with this. Still, I can dig it.

This mechanic has been done even before Braid and Winterbottom. It could still be fun if the level designs are great, but the gameplay hook is not unique (not a bad thing, just an observation).

I my gosh it looks amazing, if it plays the same as the original then it will totally be worth it.

Also, Colette, Echochrome was on PSP first if I'm correct, it's always been portable.

Well, it wasn't always portable for everyone. If I recall, the UMD version was never released in stores in N.America, so those who bought it on their PS3 with the PSN might not have had a portable version. I live in Australia so I got the full, Japanese version UMD, so for me it was always portable.

Looks good. Braid-ish in nature. But damnit, they brought back the time limit. Why?! The time limit is just annoying. If they give you an option to turn it off, then I'm sold.

I never managed to make it through even route B on Echochrome as much as I loved it and the music. Hopefully this one is a bit easier and has more variety!
