E3 09: Dual God of War 1/2 Blu-ray re-release not likely photo

After a questionnaire went public that hinted at a Blu-ray re-release of some sort of God of War and God of War II for the PlayStation 3, fans went wild. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that's actually in the cards.

"I don't know anything about it," said of God of War III producer Stig Asmussen during a private media demo today at E3, "so I don't think it's likely it's gonna happen."

Sad news for fans of the originals looking to ditch their DVD copies in favor of a new, nicer little package. While Asmussen admits it would be a great idea, he cites PlayStation 2 emulation issues on certain PS3 units. He'd love to see a current-gen remake of the last-gen third-person action killer app, a re-imagining if you will, although it doesn't sound like there are any current plans at this time.

As for the collector's edition of the game -- an inevitability for a big release like God of War III -- nothing's been nailed down. Asmussen does say he wants it to be special, something more than a simple action figure.

"Maybe if we included a felt map, that might be kind of cool," he joked.

THANK you for not saying "Next-Gen remake"!

I was one of those who voted for a bundled trilogy... Now I'm sad -_-

I hope, however, that the collector's edition is NOT going to be hokey. I really don't want an action figure or a 6-page art book *cough*R2*cough* but elaborate packaging and some behind-the-scenes supplements would be sweet :)

@unangbangkay: Ditto. I Was kind of hoping for this, since I beat both games for the first time 2 years ago on a PS3...they played perfectly. Would have been nice, but its not the end of the world... I COULD MAKE MY OWN DAMN BUNDLE WITH DUCT TAPE AND PLASTER.

I'm only getting GoW3 if they bundled it with the first two...like absolutzero, I voted for it as well.

My PS3 isn't BC and neither can it play NTSC/UC games even if it was and I simply can't be bothered to pick up a PS2 AND GoW1&2. So long story short, no GoW1&2 bundle with the LE version of GoW3, no way I'm getting this new. Then again, if they did put all the cinemas and gameplay of all the first two game into a movie that recaps everything (think the Halo 3 LE video of Halo 1 and 2 plots), I MIGHT be make the jump...Hell, that's the NEXT best idea if they CAN'T bundle the first two games!

Maybe I'll net this when it's being sold used for $30...then again, if I had that $30, I'd rather buy Aquanaut's Holiday or Hakuna Matata or Demons Souls instead. :P

a) Anyway who was "only getting GoW3 if they bundled it with the first two" is kind of dumb. Just get GoW3 anyway. It's still going to be a kickass game.

b) I really wish they weren't doing a collector's edition. The first two games had so many special features that they still outclass the vast majority of the expensive collector's editions that come out today. I'd rather they just stick with that trend of including a ridiculous amount of extras. But whatever, I get that they want money, and I know I'm going to get the special limited crazy collector's edition for it regardless.

GOW3 is pretty much GOW 1&2 with better graphics and animation.

People need to stop throwing away their old games otherwise they're just going to regret it.

I still haven't played GOW2 and don't remember a damn thing from the first one. I would buy a rerelease

Too bad, I was playing GoW 2 just last night and was STILL blown away by how great it looks/plays, even though I'm spoiled by 1080p current-gen gaming. Graphically cleaned up remakes would be badass. All you would really need to do is fix the screen-tearing and give it some anti-aliasing and it would look like a new, current-gen game.

You guys who haven't played GoW 1/2: wtf? They're super cheap ( <$10 ) and fucking awesome! I just ordered a used GoW 1 from Amazon yesterday (to replace my stolen copy), black label & complete, for $11 shipped. So, roughly the same price as a shitty generic XBLA/PSN game for crying out loud (which is why I think downloadable games mostly suck. Overpriced, not collectible and can't resale? Fuck that! ). Non-collectible worthy copies can be had even cheaper. You're really missing out.

You should play GoW2 dude it's pretty fun. Do you have a BC PS3 or a PS2? I'll mail you my copy. :)

@Chronic Logic
I wish I had that choice but I'm too poor to keep all my games so I need to sell them to get new ones. Luckily (in a bad sort of way) my 2nd 360 has died so I just bought a PS2 and I'm playing them both again.

That's nice of you, Primo. I have plenty of games on the platter right now though. I will buy me a copy here soon.
