E3 09: Castlevania: Lords of Shadows coming in 2010 photo

Thanks to an early leak, it looks like the long-in-production Kojima game Lords of Shadows is actually a -- gasp! -- Castlevania title … and it’s headed to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2010!

This whole concept is surreal to me right now, but as the pieces are slowly coming together, it looks like all this information could turn out to be true! Of course, we will know if this is, indeed, fact when Konami has its press conference later on this week.

But, seriously, let’s think about what this leak is telling us: The mysterious “dark fairy tale” action/adventure game Lords of Shadows that is one of the next big games from Kojima Productions … is actually the next game in the Castlevania series. Kojima and Castlevania. Joining forces. Oh my lord have mercy this is incredible.

And, as fellow editor Grim said: “Castlevania: Now with 100% more cutscenes!” Ha!

What do you think about this news? Are you just as confused as I am? Do you feel better waiting until the Konami press conference to get excited about this? If it is true, are you hoping and praying that Lords of Shadows could actually be a 2D game? Also, is it possible that this rumor could have been started by a simple cut and paste mistake?

Whoa wait what whoa what huh what? Kojima Studios already has a pretty good vampire hunter pedigree with Boktai/Lunar Knights, though I don't imagine this will be anything like that. Assuming this won't be anything like the 2d ones, and probably not much like the more recent 3d ones, but definitely something to want to hear more about.

You bet I am (actually, 2.5 D as New Super Mario Bros), but I'm keeping low expectations.

Kojima? Castlevania? This is enough to make me nerdgasm. Also, bonus points to Kojima if he puts in a Solid Snake skin for the main character.

I just messed my pants.

Actually, with Kojima involved, I might not be entirely turned off by a 3D Castlevania. Iga should stick to 2D, but Kojima has plenty of experience in the 3D realm.

Lush, super hi-res, atmospheric, hyper sweet looking 2D is my pick for the next Castlevania game (like in a more adult, gothic looking Muramasa stylee), obviously with lots of 3D craziness woven in (bosses, enemies, platforms, rotating levels etc.). And BIG sprites!

Either way i`m very intrigued by this....

True, Castlevania has always struggled with 3d, and didn't seem to know what type of game it wanted to be. Should be interesting to see what Kojima come up with and I'll welcome it.

Funny really. Kojima left Konami to form his own studio, but yet seems to be still working for them more than ever these days. We are still yet to really see a Kojima Productions game that is truly theirs, like Platinum Games have from Capcom (eg Bayonetta etc.

Makes you wonder too, what's going on at Konami, if they need Kojima so much. Are they loosing talent or something?

Anyway, I hope Lords brings back what's been missing from Castlevania.

OK, so I see the title in the RSS feeder, see the pic, but go and get some pot pie. Come back and read that first line. Jeebus. Y'know, I bet if I'd played the MG[S] titles before now, this might have a more WTF/FTW/[acronym] effect.

I'd love to see a reinvention of Castlevania in 3D! Hopefully the established storyline of the series will prevent any convoluted scripts and unnecessarily long cutscenes. That said, I'm ecstatic MGS isn't monopolizing Kojima's time!

There's plenty of 2D DS Castlevanias, so I'm definitely looking forward to a unique and refreshing, and most assuredly satisfying action game!

I think you all need to stop being so hung up on 2D Castlevania games. There's a ton of them already, and the Metroidvania formula is starting to get old. IGA can keep making portable 2D titles until the end of time, but if this is true, maybe Kojima can finally do the series right in 3D.

I'm wondering if this will be the action-genre Yin to MGS:Rising's Yang.

I could see two very fine, contrasting 3D action games coming from Kojima Productions.

I want both!

This is definitely turning out to be a good year for E3, all around.

Between this and MGS: Rising, I hope Kojima isn't spreading himself to thinly.
