E3 09: Bit.Trip interview with Gaijin games part two photo

In this, the second of a three part series, we delve deep into what it takes to program the Bit.Trip games, the research behind the design of Commander Video (the series' main character) and how Bit.Trip Core's bosses will differ from those of it's prequel. You also get to see one of the bosses in action, something I haven't seen anywhere else.

Just watching this video has me all freaked out again. The Bit.Trip series has a way of putting you in a very particular kind of panic, one that usually snowballs into a full blown freak-out. They also have a way of putting you in a type of trance that allows you to completely block out the rest of the world. That's when you're doing well. When you screw up, it's cause for a complete nervous breakdown.

Here I am, rambling on again about my love of Bit.Trip. Sorry. Please, hit the jump and let the guys from Gaijin Games explain their work for themselves.

Thanks for posting these interviews and covering BTC. I took a chance on Bit Trip Beat, and was not disappointed. It's just so polished and its play experience so pure. I consider Core a day-one purchase, especially after seeing this footage. It's also nice that the Gaijin crew is so obviously enthusiastic about games, and don't seem too tied down in the bureaucracy that ruin higher-budget or higher-profile games.

Congratulations, Jonathan: you've finally put the Bit.Trip series on my gaming radar. I don't know why (maybe because I came into gaming in the 8-bit days), but I somehow missed paying attention to these games before now. Now I gotta go get a Wii Points card...

No matter the amount of footage of core that I watch, I am still confused by it. I suppose it'll become more clear after the game kicks my ass in my first playthrough.

@ Cadtalfryn Just think of it like this : Your brain is wax, BIT.TRIP CORE is napalm.

@ Cadtalfryn- Have you played Gitaroo Man? Core plays a lot like the "defense" segments of that game, but on crack.

This may be the first game that I'm actually afraid of.
Sure, things in video games before have sacred me.
But never the game itself.
I am terrified of this.
