Gaijin Games (of Bit.Trip Beat and the upcoming Bit.Trip Core) is the videogame developer you want to work for. In talking to the guys at this year's E3, I really got the sense that they were all equal partners in the pursuit of creating games that weren't about making money or appeasing any one audience, but were rather solely focused on doing what they want to do. After enduring all the wanna-be-action-movie games, soulless marketing ploys and ingenue garbage that comes from being at a massive trade show like E3, my time with the guys from Gaijin was a huge breath of fresh air. These guys make videogames because they love videogames, and that's it. For that reason alone, they are a team you should keep an eye on.
Hit the jump for first of three Gaijin Games interviews where we get inside info on the storyline of the Bit.Trip series, how to play Bit.Trip Core like a pro, and the origins of Core's unique play style.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Great interview! How did you get so many? Did you just email all of them beforehand, or kind of show up and go "Hey! I'm JHolmes of Dtoid! I have an intoxicatingly charismatic persona you won't be able to resist having an interview with!"
Expansion songs/packs would be great too, but if I had to choose, I'd take all new games like Core. One of the things I love about the Gaijin guys is that they are constantly moving forward.
As for the length of the interview, we met for the first time at E3 and just got into the interview impromptu. It went on for about a half hour, with very little filler, hence the three installments (which added together will equal about twelve minutes of video).
I've been holding out on beat because of the fact I still haven't goten past Dr.Wily's fortress in MM9 and I don't wanna play through another finger buster just to see the end of all my hard work. Would you in all honesty recommend Bit.Trip Beat?
@Magnalon
OMG! You managed to say a sentense the word Wii without DS is better at the end of it. Are you on a bet or something?
Nope! Bit.Trip Beat is a shining example of a great WiiWare game: something that the system doesn't have enough of (original digital games in comparison to the PSN/XBLA). Besides, DSiWare is just starting to blossom ;D
Also, for it's price, you should get it. It's a must-have, imo. It's not necessarily a finger buster, because you move the wand up and down to move the paddle (waggle), and that's it.
Thanks I'm probably going to get this is I have an awkward amount of wiipoints (Considering they only comes in 10s that's not very hard) but when did the Wii hate return? XD
I'm one of those people that still can't beat the last level. None of my friends can either. It's terribly frustrating but I'm still trying.
@GoldenGamerXero
Buy it now. I'm serious. Even if you do get to the end of it you'll play it again and again. I think I played the first 2 levels after class every day for about 3 weeks straight after it was released. The song from the first level was stuck in my head and I was humming it under my breath for days.
Everyone I've shown this game to gets hooked to as well. It's also pretty fun for multi-player if you get the right group of enthusiasts around...and I know lots of stoners that dig the beats/crazy shapes and colours.
As for people questioning the length of the game, 6 bucks is definately worth it for the experience. It's short enough that you can beat it, and very satisfying.
Also, those blue bouncy balls? When i talked to the guys from Gajin at E3, they called it "The Gates of Hell". Pretty apt name, no?
