I would love to have been a fly on the wall during the Microsoft/Square-Enix meeting when it was decided that Final Fantasy XIII would also be coming to the Xbox 360 and not remain a PlayStation 3 exclusive. Seriously, how did this happen? For years, Sony has been banking on releasing FFXIII and reaping all the numerous sales benefits in return. Well, now it’s official: the next chapter in the revered Final Fantasy series is coming to the Xbox 360. During the Microsoft press conference, everyone and their mothers went crazy once they played the trailer from the game and made the big announcement. Honestly, I didn’t think something like this would ever happen. I still have high hopes for Sony and their growing list of exclusives -- don’t ignore the power of God of War III -- but this is a pretty huge bombshell. What do you all think? Stunned? Surprised? Saddened?

... after playing several ambitious titles on both platforms i have to admit, and im sad to say, that all this news translates to me as: we're getting a slightly technically dumbed down FF XIII.
Welp, now I'm buying a 360.
what i want to know is will it be a timed exclusive for sony and will it be spanning two dvds for xbox or will it be dumbed down in order to remain the same on both consoles?
Best thing about this announcement is all the internet drama that goes with it. There's already an online petition asking for PS3 exclusivity.
I'm surprised, but not astounded. Exclusives are disappearing, but timed exclusives are not. They will probably have to wait at least 6 months before it will show up on the 360.

I could have sworn I read that it was coming to the 360 a long time ago.
Anyway, like I keep saying I don't see how this will "kill off" the PS3. I haven't been excited for a FF game since uh, I think VIII or IX.
The reception is probably going to be GTA IV worthy; people thought it was great it was coming to the 360 and that the PS3 was doomed, but in the end when it was finally released, some people loved it and some people hated it (or at least generally disliked it compared to San Andreas).
With each passing day it becomes harder and harder to justify paying 500 bucks for a PS3 in the near future. God of War, MGS and Little Big Planet are the ONLY games drawing me there now. Almost doesn't seem worth it.
Also, I'm wondering if FF Vs XIII is making the move as well.

Wouldn't matter, I'd get almost anything on the PS3 before the 360. Happy for you guys that only own 360s, but unlike most of you I despise the POS in comparison to my PS3 (I'm not a online multi-player whore).
And, my first question is how many discs will it require to play the game on the 360 (like Lost Odyssey)? I hope they're able to prevent the multi-disc requirement and aren't forced to reduce anything to keep it to one disc.
I was pretty shocked to hear this. One of the reasons I picked up an Xbox 360 in the first place was that I enjoyed the rpgs from Bethesda and Bioware more than jrpgs. As such this news really doesn't affect me but I'm sure there are people who are going to be happy about this.

Really, does anyone really care about changing discs? I've been doing it for years with the old PS1 Final Fantasies! It still takes less time than installs...

Play from hard drive. Copy your games from the game disc and play directly from the hard drive. Not only will the drive not spin, but load times are quicker, as well. Of course, you will still need the disc in the tray to prove you own the game.
i saw it coming when they went back with nintendo. at least the ps3 is the lead platform and not on 4+ discs

I'm not personally bothered; huge hit to 'Sony Fanboys' who insist on being 'fanboys' even though they only appreciate FF, MGS and NOT Jak, Uncharted, Wipeout, Tekken, Resistance, God of War and Ratchet and Clank...
Also, it could be dumbed down; I'm pretty sure GTA for 360 was. Compare the framerates and pop-up whilst causing chaos.
yay? Never really been a huge final fantasy fan, let alone a sony fanboy so it's just news to me. At least it allows for those that could only purchase one system the chance to play what would've been an exclusive title.

i remember those days... but it doesnt remind me of that. it reminds me of the days of 2000 and 2001.. with sony and their hype machine and using their money to bury sega and the fantastic dreamcast. i still havent forgotten that.
And now whats this i see? Microsoft doing it to them? believe me, there are lots of people laughing right now, but no one is laughing louder than i am.

You didn't see this coming? Are you serious? Sony isn't doing well, it STILL isn't doing well. Square needs to make money, and an exclusive with Sony won't do that for them.
This has also been rumored for well over a year. And jumped the shark my ass.
Smart choice on Squeenix's part. I'm still going to get the PS3 version though, since I don't have a 360.

Square wont be getting my money anymore. I wonder if square will really make that much more money going multi-platform? Xbox people don't really play Final Fantasy games, and I'm sure this has turned off a lot of ps3 buyers. I know I wont be getting it anymore.
I was watching the live stream at IGN but it got boring around the Shane Kim section so I went out to get some Chinese takeout for lunch. Then I come back and see this. My sweet n' sour chicken is tasting a little sweeter today.
I take any day a multi-disc FF13 over a 20gig 8 hour install the PS3 will have

I'm a 360 OWNER and I do care about FF13. Its really pathetic that you would be so upset over this. You should be happy more people will be able to experience FF13. Also its clear to see that this is a major blow to Sony. Get over it.

More fun for everyone! Whats the big deal here? I don't like console exclusives on any system, but it is the nature of the business. I'm dreaming of a day when we can all rejoice together on game releases instead of this segregation of PS3 vs 360. Until then... we'll always have GameFAQs to laugh at, HAHA!
My feeling for the 360 haven´t changed. I still want to play Halo and Castle Crashers, and I still got the PS3 for Kingdom Hearts.
If they release kingdom Hearts for the 360 then I am going to be sad, since I like the 360 controller more than the PS3 one.
I hate ports. Unless the engine has been used on the console before with another game. The only game on my shelf from this new generation that might be considered a port is Devil May Cry 4 but it uses the same engine from dead rising. Ill just get it for the PS3.
I don't see what the big deal is. It is great that the 360 will have FF13. But the days of the exclusives I think are coming to an end. For example, MS headlines GoW2, RE5 and Fallout. Only GoW2 is an exclusive. If you have a PS3, buy it for the PS3. If you have a 360, buy it for the 360. Not a big deal.
I'm really surprised Sony let this happen (not that they had a lot of say in the decision). Well, the more people that experience it the better.

This is disappointing, it doesn't really affect me negatively but it does inspire a facepalm. I wonder how much money this took.
I'm not really interested in FFXIII, in fact I'm more interested in the still-exclusive FF Versus XIII. But I don't think anyone can deny that this is incredible news, and probably one of the biggest stories we will see this week. If this excites me at all, it's because of the schadenfreude Sony is now getting.
Is it sad that I'm still interested in the PS3 though?
It's still going to be exclusive to the PS3 in Japan... the only place this would've made a BIG difference for M$.

Both versions are releasing simultaneously. Squenix has been planning this.
I was going to get a PS3 soon but now what's the point? I'll just wait for MGS 4 to come out on xbox if I don't borrow a friend's for a week and beat it, and buy a $200 PS3 when the next Team Ico game comes out.

Well, Im still buying a PS3 for some Online Play and Afrika.
Not that I won't have my 360 prepped for some Gaming, I just won't be playing on Live as much because I don't like the community.

This wasn't a competition, per se. But this game was what made me a bit hesistant to buy a 360. All I really wanted that was coming for the PS3 and not the 360 was FFXIII. Now I'm fine and I'll be ordering myself a 60GB 360 in early August.
OMG, does it really fucking matter guys? It's a good thing for all gamers. More people will now be playing this game.
