Kitase adds that they will try to get the Europe and US release dates as close as possible.
1:04- Shane from 1UP asks about Japan and the Xbox 360 version. He says that he hears that it is not coming to Japan. Hashimoto confirms that is is not coming out in Japan for the Xbox 360. As for Infinite Undiscovery, it is a 360 exclusive. Last Remnant will also be at first, but will probably be a PS3 title later.
1:07- Rob. Workman from GameDaily is asking about exclusive content for the different versions of FF 13. They have no intention to make different versions for the different platforms.
1:09 - A Japanese press member asks about the reasoning for the lack of an Xbox 360 Japanese release. Hashimoto says that he likes the spread of the Xbox 360 in Europe and the US, and they have not changed their mind on a Japanese version.
1:10 - Another asks about other Asian markets. As you can guess, nothing has been finalized.
1:11 - Play Magazine asks about the lack of motion sensing in the Xbox 360 controller. Is it safe to assume that neither version will use motion sensing? "For now, we have no plans for that," says Kitase.
1:12 - RPGamer asks about Final Fantasy XIII on Windows PCs. The hosts are stumped, and the audience laughs. "For now, it's undecided."
1:14 - Play Magazine asks about the dev tools for FF13, and wether they plan to continue to use it. They say that they will use that for Versus and the next MMORPG. This leads him to ask about the use of Unreal Engine 3 for Last Remnant. Hashimoto says that Last Remnant has been in development for a long time, even before Final Fantasy XIII. UE3 seemed more appropriate for the title.
1:17 - Another journo asks about any western game references the can cite. He asks specifically about Mass Effect. SQ EX says that they are "aware of Mass Effect, but not influenced by it."
1:19 - Jesus Christ. If the guy next to me sighs one ore time....
Someone asks when the decision to create this Xbox 360 version of FF13 was made. He also asks if it had anything to do with the multiplatform-friendly Crystal Tools. Hashimoto says that it was a natural evolution from the multiplatform Final Fantasy XI release. As for the timing, it wasn't very long ago that they made a decision. They just recently started working with Microsoft on details and development tools.
1:23 - Another Japanese journalist asks about Crystal Tools and how it relates to the workload for localization. Kitase answers that it's hard to explain in detail. He says that they make the game to be PC-ready, and then translate to the hardware to the Xbox 360. So, it's PS3 first, and then the Xbox 360 process.
1:25 - Another asks about projected sales, PS3 vs Xbox 360. Hashimoto wants to actually ask the US press about that. They will start marketing soon, but for now, they have no guess.
1:27 - For the record, dude as sighed 3 more times....
Will Final Fantasy XIII have MMO elements? Is this a new trend from Sqare Enix? Hashimoto folds his arms and ponders. There is much deliberation going on between the two guests. Kitase says that there is no intention to make one game like the other. They intend to make a new, unique game every time.
1:30 - Someone asks about a Wii version. The room laughs. Sigh guy even laughs. He asks this because they mention that Crystal Tools can scale to even the Wii. Kitase says that he has no idea what Mr. Iwata will say tomorrow, so there's no knowing now.
1:31 - Someone asks about possible Xbox Live features. Square Enix says that this has "yet to be decided."
1:34 - Sigh Guy asks a question! He's from Eurogamer. I like Eurogamer! Just not sighing. He asks about the difference between FFXI and FFXIII. Kitase says that the entire atmosphere and direction is totally different for Final Fantasy XIII, and that extends to visuals and everything else.
1:37 - "What is your favorite Final Fantasy game? And why?" It had to come sometime! Hashimoto says Final Fantasy VII, as he was really involved with the title. He cites visuals as a major reason. Kitase cops out and copies Hashimoto.
1:39 - Someone asks if FFXIII was influenced from the fighting sequences in Advent Children? Kitase says that there is no direct influence, but says there was some stimulation. He cites the speed in particular.
1:42 - Finally, FFXIII uses Active Time Battle, but no specifics can be given.
1:44 - I kid you not, Sigh Guy sighs once more as they conclude the session.
Yay Dale! I can't wait to see what info you'll have in store for us! :D
What more can they announce now that what matters most has gone multiplatform?
$10 says they just toss around sales numbers and things we already know.
Ask them when they plan on buying out Mistwalker Studios.
In my fantasy world, this is where Kingdom Hearts 3 will be announced.
Will FF 13 fit on a DVD? Will it be the same as the PS3 game? Yoshinori Kitase answers....
WHAT A CLIFF HANGER!!!
Still, good to hear SqaureEnix wants more money! We now know them to be a real business.
SE = sellouts.
Defend all you want, but its true. Sony on the other hand needs to start forking up the dough.
Has the conference room been hijacked or something?
Speaking of which, how many discs will FFXIII 360 come on?
Looks like Square wont be getting my money. Sellouts.
Heh, "not decided yet". Box set?
Heh, "not decided yet". Box set?
Great questions. The DVD delima will definitely be interesting.
Word.
So no timed exclusive, not being developed on either console's devkit, the possibility of the 2 versions being different due to the storage limits on DVD vs Blu-Ray and no guarantee of it coming out on the Xbox 360 in Japan.
Its not a lost cause, I think those who bought their PS3s for it will still cope with the PS3 version.
Punch the sighing bastard.
Why are people whining about Square Enix being sellouts? They're not making software to blow your self important little e-weenies. They're making software to make money.
You'd think that the whole reason Microsoft would want to have FFXIII released on the 360 would be to get a better grasp on the Japanese market. They're just wasting their money getting the game made for US 360s.
You should ask why they thought it was a good idea to not have Yoshitaka Amano's artistic influence in some of the newer games.. I was always curious.
The conference so far just seems like a bunch of bullshit and chips if you ask me.
Okay, so is Squenix going to actually talk about any other games? I know this is huge news, but I'm interested in seeing them talk about you know anything else*
* I really mean Dragon Quest
@Naia
You're not the only one. Dale, make sure they're pressed on the KH series
A bright spot in this for fanboys will be that they're still leading the FFXIII development on the PS3 platform. Historically speaking, games that start on that platform work out better when they jump the fence. Look at Burnout Paradise. They led it on the PS3, and now both versions are virtually identical in both performance and appearance.
I honestly don't see how anyone did NOT see this coming, given Square's history. Sure, every major FF title before this gen has been Sony-exclusive, but that's because Sony had no credible composition, even at the Dreamcast, Xbox and Gamecube's heyday.
Now that the ground is virtually even (you can't even consider the Wii given how different it is) there's no reason NOT to hit every button you can with such a high-profile franchise. Exclusivity (for the most part) is dead and we're all better off for it.
sorry, guys. they are locking this down to FF13 questions only. Everyone else is getting gunned down.
I agree that Sony really needs to stop thinking they'll survive on Blu-Ray alone and forking over some large amounts of dough to keep some of these games. But, most importantly, to prevent MS from getting exclusive DLC. I don't care too much if they're on both platforms, but I'm pissed as all hell that some games are getting exclusive DLC on the 360 instead of it being available on both platforms.
Sony had no credible COMPETITION*
"Kitase says that he has no idea what Mr. Iwata will say tomorrow, so there's no knowing now. " That's the nicest "no, there's no plans for a Wii version" that I've ever heard :)
@unangbangkay: "Sure, every major FF title before this gen has been Sony-exclusive"
Erm....I, II, III, IV, V and VI are on what consoles?
Seriously this is bad news for Sony, they probably will end up third place and this mark a definite divide between a western market and a Japanese market...again...even more so...
OMG SONY U R TRAITRS GO BE BUTT BUDIES WITH M$
OMG SQUEENIX U R TRAITRS GO BE BUTT BUDIES WITH M$
...I suck
"sorry, guys. they are locking this down to FF13 questions only. Everyone else is getting gunned down."
BOO SQUENIX!!! >:(
Eurogamer guy is making us Europeans look bad... we don't sigh that much honest!
FFXIII uses Active Time Battle
THANK THE MAKER
Dale would you say that any of those Square enix guys are "good looking?"
Dale, I would've punched that motherfucker.
At least he didn't whistle though, right?
I just thought of this: FFXIII is announced as having active time battle system...yet Versus XIII its still technically in development and its promoted as an action RGP....
So ok, ACTIVE time battle system pretty much says Action RPG so what exactly will be the difference again?
How are SE sellouts? They are a company, who's job is to make money, not pander to commenters in blogposts. Square Enix doesn't owe anybody anything.
*sighs*
*sigh guy*
OK, SE Final Fantasy games < SS FF games, but I don't see how they're sellouts... What kind of incentive are they supposed to have when making games? Peoples happiness? LOLZ
lol, sigh guy.
It's pretty much a given that FFXIII will be more than one DVD on the 360, but even as a PS3-only owner, I think it's awesome that 360 owners will be able to play it. I'm honestly not really that much of an RPG fan, Final Fantasy least of all, but XIII looks absolutely amazing so far, so the more people who get to play it the better.
Sellouts, are you kidding me!?!? give me a freaking break.
They are a company, their bottom line is profit, not worrying about people's insatiable fanboism. If you can't understand that, then there is no hope for you.
Well. Sony is fucked.
Misanthrope said "So ok, ACTIVE time battle system pretty much says Action RPG so what exactly will be the difference again?"
Active Time Battle is the turn-based combat system that was used in some form or another for FF5-9. The active time refers to the initiative gauges (or whatever they're called) that determine when a character will act, as opposed to just taking turns as prior games had done. There was also an option to switch between pausing the gauges while selecting from a menu or keep them moving while you selected, the default for this varies between games if I recall correctly.
Chrono Trigger also uses a version of ATB. Were you not around for those games or something?
*sigh* lol
Glad I wasn't there. I'd heckle them about Seiken Densetsu 3 and get thrown out.
"Why haven't we seen this game at least translated to the DS like every other fucking Final Fantasy game there is? Why? Wait! Ahhhh, don't! Why?! Don't taz me bro! AHHHH!!"
