E3 08: Resident Evil 5 to be released on Friday the 13th, early 2009 photo

Moments ago, during the Microsoft press conference, after showing some incredible footage of the highly anticipated Resident Evil 5, producer Jun Takeuchi announced the game’s release date: March 13, 2009.

Yup, that’s Friday the 13th. Oooooh, spooky! True, it’s a ways off, but knowing a definitive release date is always exciting.

Oh, yeah, and there was also a little mention of TWO PLAYER ONLINE CO-OP! Man, Resident Evil 5 is shaping up very nicely.

Resident Evil is one of the few series that I'll admit to being a fanboy for (I even played the Outbreak games until they shut down the servers) so this makes me very happy in pants. At least by being out next year it won't get buried in the holiday rush with everything else coming out this year.

2 player co-op sounds great. I haven't really been keeping up on the control scheme for this one. Does anyone know what its going to be like?

I was pretty underwhelmed with that demo. Co-op is cool, but...it looked soooo much like RE4. Animations, HUD, even the fucking barrels are the same...

Eh we'll just have to see.

Resident Evil is pretty much my favortie series of games so I can not wait for this to come out!

Again, two-player local co-op would have been much better IMHO. If I play online, it's typically with more than just one other. If I play a two-person game, it's 99% of the time with someone sitting right next to me.
