E3 08: New Wario Land: Shake It screens are absolutely gorgeous photo

After yesterday's widely panned Nintendo press conference (seriously, go back and read these comments -- yikes!), we were given a press kit with a bunch of Nintendo assets to look over. While most of these press releases and screenshots concerned the games focused on during the conference (Wii Sports Resort, Wii Music, etc.), I found some brand new images of upcoming Wii title Wario Land: Shake It!.

Before reading any further you really need to check out the screens in the below gallery. If you are like me, you must be thinking to yourself: "Why the heck did Nintendo not show off this game at the conference?!" Even stranger, Wario Land: Shake It! is not even playable on the show floor! Seriously, what the heck?!

In this classic 2D side-scrolling platformer, Wario waggles his way through many varied stages full of treasure shaking goodness! By holding the Wiimote sideways and shaking it, players can shake enemies, free coins from treasure bags, and even cause earthquakes! While the concept almost borders on too much waggle, one can't deny the beauty of the graphics. Check out the giant boss creature; all those jaw-dropping, hand-painted backgrounds; the cartoon look of the characters; THE SUBMARINE!

I am salivating for more information on Wario Land: Shake It!. Gaaaaawd, I wish this was on the show floor! With a looming release date of September 2008, I am shocked (SHOCKED!) that Nintendo hasn't been focusing more attention on this promising looking title.

What do you think? Do you adore the look and feel of this game? Does Wario Land: Shake It! give you hope that Nintendo still has all gamers in mind?

Wow, this looks awesome. Clean, cartoony. It looks like it's going to be fun. Somehow reminds me of megaman art.

This game looks closer to a playable cartoon then any other game I've seen. I'm REALLY excited for it, definitely gonna buy it when it comes out.

I love next-gen 2D. It feeds my inner-cartoon freak.

Want. Maybe this will get me back to my Wii again, because I haven't played it in months. I dig the art style myself, I hope it's AMAZING as you hype it to be Chad!!

I wish this game was getting more attention, and I don't understand at all why it isn't. This is the most exciting thing that is coming up for the Wii, in my eyes.

Nintendo, why did you try to hide this? It looks beautiful and I've been missing the 2D platformer lately...

Whoa, that looks fucking awesome. Indeed, where was this yesterday?

Wario Land games are always so much fun (I'm a whore for treasure hunting). They didn't always use the Zelda-esque heart for the player's life bar, did they? Also, you pretty much can't go wrong with a MUSTACHIOED SUBMARINE!!

Looks great, but I hate the forced 4:3 screen ratio.

Nintendo wants to hide it so they can say nobody buys games that aren't Mii sports sims anymore. They release games like this here with the most minimal of notice, assuming they'll get some small sales from those already looking for them. I really don't see why they don't think something like this could sell to a broader market if promoted, but generally they are probably right about the stuff they release like that (Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, etc etc.)

I like it... if only I didn't have to waggle. I seriously do not want to jerk off for coins, no thanks. I do hope it sells well. The more 2D the better.

This is my most anticipated game by Nintendo. It looks so fantastic, why aren't there more games like this.

Yeah, this is probably the most exciting Wii announcement at E3. Hi-res 2D is ALWAYS good. Looks like people are following VanillaWare's path after-all. If only IGA would get the memo and make a PS360 Castlevania.

September release date and no mention or playable demo? WTF! That really grinds my gears. This looks like such a fun game, WTF Nintendo? Are you trying to piss me off? What are they smoking?

This looks awesome! On closer inspection, it looks like a slightly modified Super Paper Mario engine so this should be pretty good to control. I'm hoping for a SPM style gameplay as well (i.e. hold controller like NES controller) as that would kick ass! Roll on september!

I love to see crisp, bright, 2D hand drawn games. I hope we continue to see more and more of them.

God damn it. Why do the screenshots indicate no 16:9 support? It's not like this a port of an old game.

I've been praying for a Wario platform game on Wii. I was thinking more along the lines of a sequel to Treasure's GC Wario World but when I heard it was a 2D platformer my brain esploded. And when I found out production IG were handling the animation I was even more excited. This IS Nintendo's big game of E3 for me... even if it was announced early and wasn't even mentioned in their presser.

MOAR 2D GAMES PLEEZ!

Wa-ha-ha-ha! Have a rrrrotten day!
