With giant monsters like these, it's understandable why Sony forgot to mention Killzone 2 in their keynote!

At the Sony keynote earlier today, a new level from Resistance 2 was shown off. On this level, you encounter the Leviathan, a gigantic monster that's too stupid to just knock over the building you're hiding in. At the beginning of the fight, the Leviathan will grab you and throw you to a nearby building. From there, you will make your way across a make shift bridge that's strong enough to take two hits from the beast. Eventually the Leviathan grabs you again and throws you a few blocks to another building. At this point, you have to lure the Leviathan towards a building filled with explosives to take out the creature.

This is why I never liked giant creatures much. The damn thing could easily plow right through the building you're in at one point, but instead, it just stands there waiting for you to pop out.

Hit the jump to check out the Leviathan footage as well the president of Insomniac Games, Ted Price, talking about some of the back-story to Resistance 2

That leviathan looks huge and scary though.
Can't wait to get my hands on the game. They should announce a release date for it soon.

I'm really disappointed that they're not at least doing 2-player co-op for the main story. I enjoyed that so much with the first game that I didn't want to play it single-player again.

@hpv, they're doing 8-player co-op.

After watching that i really think its shaping up to look really good, i just finished the first one recently and you could see as you went through the game that they were getting a better and better handle on the technology.

Why should you LET it pick you up and throw you towards the next plot event, though? That's the sort of thing that always irritates me in games like this. I have big guns but you can't kill any boss without working out the gimmick to the fight.

Meh... too scripted. Probably awesome to play once, but that's it.

i agree, it's too scripted. and, i agree, too...still looks awesome.

that Insonmniac president is a walking coma-inducing boringness. He's introducing Resistance 2 for gawd's sake...and he managed to make it boring.

I saw the screenshots and was really excited but watching that trailer killed it for me. It's so scripted, there's no sense of immersion. I mean it's just so stupid looking, you shoot him a bit, he picks you up and instead of killing you waits for you to blast him in the face. Then he puts you down in the next patch of environment. And repeat. Wow. And what's worse is watching the guy who's playing it run into the first building straight away and then look back out. Cos he knows the script says if he stays outside the building for x number of seconds he'll be squashed by a giant fist. Or when he goes across the metal walkway that the Leviathan grabs it, but mysteriously wait's till he's safely out of the way to rip the structure apart. How are you suppose to feel any tension when the game is so clearly demonstrating that it wants you to live at all costs?

@ChaosInTheSnow - why don't you just wait until it releases? The boss battles in MGS4 were scripted too. That's the whole point of boss battles....they seem invincible until you find there weakness.

Pass on the game and pout for a while then.....I'll enjoy this game for many many hours after it's release.

Yea whatever: been there, done that. Everybody forgot about the PC shooter Painkiller it seems but not I: one of the bosses there was that big.

@PixelJunky: Firstly, I didn't give out about the game in general, I was only giving out about that specific scene, which I am fully within my right to judge. Secondly it's far more scripted looking that any MGS 4 battle. Thirdly you're clearly the biased one here cos you're already saying you'll enjoy it for "many many hours" after release and you haven't even played it! I don't wanna jump to conclusions but you come off as a bit of a fanboy. I personally really enjoyed the multiplayer in the original and despite the fact that I didn't like what I saw in the trailer, I'm looking forward to the game. Is that not a balanced view? I think you're the one that's sulking cos I pointed out some obvious flaws in what you may well consider teh best game eva. Games we haven't played FTW!
