E3 08: New BioShock PS3 trailer hints at new content - carnivals and rockets photo

I'm not in the business of comparing Xbox 360 graphics to PS3 graphics, but I think we can all agree that BioShock looks gorgeous, no matter the platform. After the jump, feel free to feast your eyes on the first proper BioShock gameplay footage running on the PS3. Even though it's been months since I explored Rapture, in the back of my mind, I secretly hope that my roommate ponies up the dough for this new version.

Since the game was confirmed to see a PS3 release, rumors about new and extra content have been popping up, and the new trailer (available after the jump) seems to confirm a new, carnival-themed level. Don't forget that a zoo area was cut from the Xbox 360 version due to time restraints -- it isn't unreasonable that the PS3 version could pick up a few levels. However, that could cause some serious narrative problems, unless that was overhauled, too.

Also, the trailer focuses heavily on the rocketlauncher -- a weapon previously absent from Rapture -- and what I presume is the Sonic Boom plasmid that was available as DLC. With new weapons, tonics, and plasmids, and what may turn out to be completely new areas, the Digital Extremes-developed BioShock is shaping up to be more than a sloppy port.

Well met, 2K. Well met indeed.

[Edit: I kind of forgot about those heat-seeking grenades that you could invent in the original. So, the rockets in the trailer probably aren't a completely new weapon, just a type of invented ammo for the regular old grenade launcher. Sorry about that.]

There was a Grenade Launcher. But you could get Heat Seeking RPG ammo...

I really enjoyed the 360 version, but adding a carnival and a zoo level might make me buy it all over again. Maybe even three or four more times.
I really want to try out the enrage plasmid on both a clown and a llama. Separately, and then together. Then my life will be complete.

@Timmy and Chibi -- I totally forgot about that. I never used the heat-seeking grenades, so I thought it was new. I'll make a note about what a failure I am.

The RPG launcher isn't new. But that nut cracker location is. Plus all the DLC/add-on stuff/patches & HOME integration. I can't wait.

It could be a straight up port and I'd still buy it again. I <3 Bioshock.

I still have my 360 copy even though I sold my 360.

However I'm honestly excited for this, hopefully it'll spur me into that 2nd playthrough I never managed on the 360.

Yes, that'll mean I have 2 copies of the same game.

Competition means good things for the consumer! The Xbox fanboy inside me says otherwise, but seriously, if the PS3 wasn't doing well, E3's showing would have been similar to last year's...

Plus Bioshock is an amazing game and should be accessible to all.

I got the PC version, but I am totally picking this up. I just want to own the definitive version of the game because it's one I really love and has tons of replay value.

The extra content makes me super jealous. While FFXIII became one less reason to get a PS3 for me, this is one more.

I would play the game a second time for the extra content.

I don't know how I feel about an altered narrative. I mean, it's kind of why most people are hesitant about the sequel... It's already put together pretty nicely, what else is there to say in the world of Rapture?
Although, I'm with you on hoping Nathan gets together the $60+ for this game. It'd be pretty dank.
