You can imagine Microsoft is feeling pretty smug about yesterday's "MEGATON ZOMG SQUARE-ENIX BE TRAITORZ" announcement that Final Fantasy XIII was heading to the Xbox 360, but in case your imagination wasn't enough, here's what Aaron Greenberg told reporters following the event: We have a white board that lists all of the games people said we’d never get. That list is getting smaller.
At the very top of the white board, one has to guess that Metal Gear Solid 4 sits itching to be wiped off. FF XIII was a huge coup and a few people are feeling that Guns of the Patriots can only follow. When asked about it by MTV's Stephen Totilo, Greenburg was coy, merely laughing it off and suggesting that it was "a question for Konami." Oh Greenburg, you sly devil, you. What does Destructoid's E3-following community think? Is MGS4 a matter of time for The 'Soft, or will Sony hang on to arguably its biggest exclusive?

I don't want to open past wounds, but who was the editor that said MGS4 was coming to the 360 long ago and got flamed for it? Was it World Famous Robert Summa?
Multiple dicks. Do you hear me?
it'll stop me borrowing a friend's PS3 to play it so more cash for Konami :)
It would also be on 7 discs or something.
I don't know, the Microsoft produced rumors about MGS4 coming to 360 have been around since the announcement of the game and they should at some point just stop it.
On a different note, I could see MGO coming to 360 though.
Who knows, I mean no one thought FF would ever come to 360, however, the only way I can see them getting MGS4 on 360 is to create disks that are equal to the Blu-Ray ones, beyond that it seems impossible.
MGS4, coming to Atari Jaguar, THIS FALL.
If it comes to 360, that just means I won't have to pay for it ;O.
Yes it will happen, but not for well over a year or so.
I imagine the inevitable special edition will be. As for the multiple discs, that remains to be seen. Just because people think it will take that many does not mean it will. It might, but we didn't make the game, so we don't really have any business assuming how much the game will take up.
Eh, it happens or it doesnt.
This sort of thing doesnt surprise me anymore and fails to move me. This generation robbed me of my innocent console loyalties.
Also, not to stir any shit that Jim hasn't already inadvertently stirred, but they haven't completely squashed the rumor by now for a reason don't you think?
Everyone at Konami and MS are always all smiley, giggly, and coy when it comes this topic..... something is up.
Anyway, I've played smidgens of it on the PS3 and I would love to play it on my 360 controller, earning achievements along the way. =)
Let me correct that. We can assume, just not pretend it's certain.
I always thought MGS4 would eventually come to the 360, i hope it does because then i'll buy one.
i guess its only a matter of time before we see a kojima game on the 360. The popularity of the 360 can't be denied and who would turn down profit? we all know there are plenty of stubborn fanboys praying to the "game gods" asking for MGS4 (because they refuse to buy a PS3) im glad im not one of them. Its great having choices that is why i have all three systems. :-)
Awesome!
It'll happen. And soon.
Maybe...
@multiple discs
I'd be willing to bet a kidney that the only reason a Blu-Ray disc was 'needed' was because there was very little compression done.
Honestly, all these PS3 fanboys whooping about disc changes seem to forget how many DVDs the average game gets (even when it's multiplatform) - one.
Also, why do disc changes even matter? I don't recall people complaining about multi-disc PS1/PS2 releases?
Even though I own a 360 only, The loss of exclusives for the PS3 is worrying. When ICO 3 comes out I'll have nothing else to play.
Disc changes don't bother me. Just reminds me of the old days when you had multiple discs. I always thought of it as a challenge, get through one disc to get to the other. It also gave me a rough idea of how much of the game I had played through.
Its arguably there only exclusive at this stage.
It would only be par for the course if we got a 360 MGS4: Sub-something-tance, and I welcome that.
They would have to do new sections for where the forth wall gets broken and they refer to the hardware though, which could be pretty cool/funny.
Until I own shares in Sony or sun the company, I couldn't give two shits.
All of these debacles make the entire industry look childish.
I'd be thrilled if MGS4 came to 360. Right now it is the only reason I'd get a PS3 over buying a PS2 again, even though I just played it through over the weekend on a borrowed system.
To be honest though, I'd rather see the MGS Essential Collection come to 360 first. Then I wouldn't even have a need to get a PS2! ;)
I meant to say 'own the company'.
'sun the company' is ridiculous.
In MGS4 even following the initial PS3 install, you have a three minute wait between chapters whilst it installs the next. Swapping discs instead could actually be quicker. Or with the newly reported 'install' option for the 360 disc changing becomes irrelevant anyway.
compression is a wonderful thing. A wonderful thing which Kojima hates with a firey burning passion.
The game is only 50 GB because Kojima's a stickler about that stuff. Saying it takes 50 GB means that it is over 5X as large as GTAIV. Somehow, I have trouble believing that. I dunno what it is... hmmm....
If compressed, it would take two DVDs at max I'd think. It's not like PS3 owners don't have to wait for installs anyway, they could just have a disc swap prior to Act IV or something instead of installs.
Actually... it was Workman... not Summa. And as soon as he broke the story, Microsoft Lawyers issued a cease and desist.
I've never seen Microsoft jump on a "false rumor" like that.
The only reason MGS4 took up a whole disc was because of the uncompressed audio and the video GAARRRBLLLARG.
It will be two discs at the most. I read the game only has 7GB of actual game data, and the rest was audio and fluff. If you cut the audio down one level, you've already saved yourself 40% of the space.
Interesting news....indeed. I think they did pull a lazy when they made MGS4 in the compression department. I'm not worried what so ever about how many discs the game for 360 is going to be because I really don't mind switching at all.
I mean look at KKrieger, its amazing the amount of compression those people did this game is only 97k or so and looks stunning.
And then there will be thousands of Verbatimmed MGS4 on X360 ... good deal Konami??
i agree with ricreeves, ps3 fanboys seem to think the idea of swapping discs is unimaginable, but lost oddysee didnt have any problems with it, and it would cut down on those install times between chapters. also it would mean a nice fat box :D
the ps3 fanboys seem to forget the 1st metal gear was on multiple discs.
With game installs and disc swaps for each chapter I'd totally see this as possible for 360.
Really the chapter device is what makes this game easy to divide into multiple discs. Will people care about swapping discs? Maybe. Will it be any different from the installs, no.
I got it for the PS3, I won't repurchase for 360. But with previous iterations, Konami has released to other platforms for the special re-issue.
This is REALLY starting to piss me off. Are we gamers SO lazy that we have to complain about changing a FUCKING DISK??? I don't know about you assholes, but I usually sit >1 mile away from my consoles when playing them.
Seriously, you whores. stfuajpg.
Also, has anyone even considered why MS has decided to let gamers put their games on their harddrive to play? hmmmmm?
PS3 Owner (me) - Hmmm, I'll trade you MGSIV for Gears of War 1 and 2. Deal?
LOL @ 007
Also, >1 mile away means GREATER than, unless you were being sarcastic, then it makes sense.
Your deduction skills are quite amazing in the last sentence.
I saw MGS4 for the first time and i laughed becasue i thought my mate had MGS4 in form the PS2, the only reason i can see it sso big is becasue of the FMV scenes!!
ALSO did everyone just scip the fact that with LIVE 2.0 you can copy the game to your HDD? no disk swapping, not like disc swapping is a big deal?!
Suddenly, I'm more interested in MGS4.
If the game didn't require an install before each Act the people mentioning disc swapping may have had a point. Worst case scenario, 1-3 minute installs would be replaced by a disk swap. At this point Sony fans shouldn't be so nervous about the possibility of a port. The game has already been released on the PS3 and has done its part to help with sales of the console. If it were to be released on the Xbox 360, it just means more people would have the opportunity to play a great game.
I'd say "never say never" but personally I don't think it's going to happen, at least not anytime soon.
Not only will Konami have to alter a fair few scenes of dialog (either re-record or drop) but on the PS3 the game is uncompressed on a blu-ray disk. I imagine it'll take a hell of a lot of work to compress the game down so that it'll fit onto a non ridiculous number of DVDs.
Now Metal Gear Online... that could be more of a possibility in the near future
I honestly don't think it would happen, but if it did, WOW.
iPods? In my XBox?
MICROSOFT IS BUYING APPLE. CONFIRMED.
Also, multiple dicks.
I may just buy it for 360 out of spite for all the PS3 owners who bought their system only for MGS4... and then never open it or play it.
C'mon. I just lost a bet on FF13. If I lose again...it may involve goats.
Expect a early to mid December release to capitalize on the Holiday season and at least far enough out not to hurt Gears 2 sales.
Like FF13, I can't even imagine a Metal Gear game on the 360. I doubt it, but you never know...M$ has a lot of money.
I actually thought there was more of a chance that MGS4 would be brought to the 360 than FFXIII so now anything goes. I wouldn't be surprised if Konami waits a year and then if the sales units aren't there because of the small PS3 user base they move it over to the 360.
I certainly believe that the inevitable director's cut will be released on 360. However, I'm not sure I'll want to play a game with constant disc swapping. It'll just look weird to have a bigger case for a regular game.
You know whats funny, robestlyes above just said the small PS3 user base. This is the misconception. The 360 is only about 3.5 mil user above the ps3 user base at 10 mil....
Thats how rumors spread.
Well, MGS2 Substance was released on Xbox, so I don't think it's too far-fetched if MGS4 gets released on 360.
What would be crazy though: "Metal Gear Solid 4, announced for Wii!"
@Nyghtcrawler, i think its more like 5.6 million more world wide....
@Necros No disc swapping if you copied your games to the HDD which you can do in the new live.....
Wait what? People are STILL talking about this idea? Talk about it when only it happens for reals plz.
