E3 08: Logitech making a wireless keyboard for Wii, racing wheel for PS3 photo

Waaaaay back in 2007 you may recall that Nintendo released a system update that added keyboard support. I’m kind of surprised that it’s taken so long, but we’re finally seeing a peripheral set to cash in on the crowd of Wii owners that really like using the Internet Channel.

This new wireless keyboard is being manufactured by Logitech and is officially licensed by Nintendo. It’ll have some buttons that are designed specifically for the Internet Channel, such as keys for Zooming In and Out, going Forward and Back, Quiting, and selecting OK. There isn’t a release date yet, but it will be selling for $49.99. I’ve really only ever used the Internet Channel to play some browser games and watch Youtube videos, so it isn’t a product that really appeals much to me.

The second Logitech device announced is a new wireless racing wheel for the PlayStation 3. Beyond the fact that it is both a “racing wheel” and “wireless” we really don’t know much about it yet.

Do you see yourself picking either of these up when they release?

[Thanks, Adam and Brain]

@whormongr

Exactly. I wonder if this wireless Wii-keyboard will be bluetooth. Then it'd be PS3 compatible...

If that's the case, I'm hoping for a port of Typing of the Dead on Wii.

Logitech : FAIL

other than the fact that this isn't needed, it isn't bluetooth either... so every time i want to enter in information its going to screw with my wireless connection that i have to use w/ the wii unless i want to spend 30 bux on a usb2eth...

This is so-o-o stupid. I have already used an off-the-shelf wireless keyboard with the Wii. (A Logitech keyboard, in fact.) I found it to be utterly useless from a necessity perspective. No Wii games are ASWD-based and having such games defeats the whole idea of the Wiimote.

This is a really, really stupid idea.

Bad form, Logitech. How about a more interesting market by offering wireless trackballs for the PC for those of us who hate to use mice when playing R6V2 or Battlefield 2142?!

I have a Microsoft wireless keyboard I got for $17 off Amazon that works just fine. And all the Internet Channel specific shortcuts they mention are already supported.

@ Spitfire: I do, pretty much every day. My PC is in the bedroom, and surfing the web is way more convenient if I want to get online for a bit late at night after work or during the day while I'm hanging out with the kiddo.

I can't see these selling well, since using the regular controller isn't that bad.
